    Fukuoka Pref. Omutashi Takarazakamachi 2-2-3
A museum adjoining the Omuta City Library in Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Japan's only museum dedicated to the nation's traditional karuta playing cards, the museum's wide-ranging exhibits also cover the history of Omuta. Karuta contests and events are held at the museum periodically.

It was much better than I expected. There are many interesting and instructive displays about playing cards (Karuta). Iroha Karuta was particularly interesting. There is also a section about the...

    Fukuoka Pref. Asakuragunchikuzenmachi Takata 2561-1
A history museum located in Asakura County, Fukuoka Prefecture. The museum contains some 1,800 exhibits with a focus on items from the Pacific War, and visitors can view an actual Nakajima Ki-27 used for the former Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, and a Mitsubishi A6M Zero used by the former Japanese Imperial Navy. In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum also regularly holds special exhibitions and events.

This peace memorial stands on the site of former military airbase. (Actually the premises of KIRIN beer factory were also a part of that airbase.) Since I had already visited Chiran before I came to...

Here visitors can learn about Shikanoshima Island's history and industries through exhibits on intangible cultural properties, the Mongol invasions of Japan, and the island's connection to the ancient ""Man'yoshu"" poetry anthology."

    Fukuoka Yame-shi Motomachi 2-123-2
A museum where all of the traditional crafts of the Yame region are gathered under one roof. The building was constructed on the sight of Chikugo-Fukushima Station on the former Japan National Railways Yabe Line, and its design is modeled after the traditional white-walled kura storehouses of the Yame-Fukushima region. Accordingly, the line’s old train rails can actually be seen inside the building. Inside, the museum displays the arts and crafts of the Yame area, such as Kurume kasuri textiles, which have been designated a National Traditional Craft. There’s also a sales gallery area where you can purchase traditional crafts and other merchandise. On the south side of the building, there is a 500-meter long wisteria trellis created from the rails of the old train line, and from mid- to late April, visitors can enjoy walking through a tunnel of wisteria blossoms.

This is a must place to visit with many of the well known Japanese crafts under one roof. There is also a fine selection of crafts to buy that are quite original and make excellent small presents to...

    Fukuoka Ogori-shi Mitsusawa 5208-3
This museum is located in Mitsusawa, Ogori City. It exhibits cultural assets excavated from archeological sites in the prefecture. These include prefectural-designated historical sites such as the adjacent Mitsusawa Ruins as well as the ruins of the medieval Dazaifu Administrative Buildings. Visitors can learn about the history of Northern Kyushu starting from the Paleolithic period through a variety of exhibits. One such exhibit features relocated archeological remains displayed under a glass floor.
