This restaurant serving up local cuisine is just a two-minute walk from Uwajima Station. They serve up a variety of Ehime staples including Uwajima Tai Meshi (Rice cooked with sea bream), in which fresh slices of sea bream topped with sauce mixed with raw egg, and Jako-ten-yaki, in which small fish are mashed into a paste and then fried into tempura. They serve a number of dishes that can't be had anywhere else, such as Fukayuzarashi, a dish from the southern region with boiled shark served with a spicy-sweet dipping sauce called migarashi, and Sea Bream Soumen (requires advance reservation) where a full sea bream is served with soumen noodles arranged to evoke the waves off of Uwajima. Alongside traditional tatami mat seating they offer dug out seating, perfect for families with small children.

From the second floor of this beautiful wooden structure you can look out and see Ozu Castle. Their specialty is their Tonomachi-Tarui meal serving eel grilled with their secret sauce that they've protected since the Taisho-period. They can accommodate any situation with counter seating where you can easily drop in by yourself, private rooms where you can relax without worrying about your surroundings, and even a banquet hall. They also offer simple lunch boxes, exquisite arrangements for seasonal festivals or family gatherings, and special meals for memorial services.

    Ehime Pref. Uwajimashi Shinmachi 2-3-8
A Japanese-style restaurant about a five-minute walk from Uwajima Station. The exterior was renovated to look like a storehouse with a full Japanese atmosphere. The spacious interior has seating and private rooms to meet the needs of small and large groups alike, and also offers counter seating for watching the chefs at work and leg-warming kotatsu seating. The menu features sea bream with rice and other local Uwajima cooking. Most popular is the “Uwajima tai-meshi gozen” —with fresh sea bream sashimi mixed with tare sauce or raw eggs and poured over piping hot rice, and completed with maruzushi, vegetable jakoten, or a tempura medley.

Ehime Areas

around-area-map

Stretched across the northwest corner of Shikoku island, Ehime is a nature-rich prefecture boasting beautiful coastlines and a rural center where mountains play host to 26 of the Buddhist temples that make up the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs. The northern city of Imabari marks the entrance to the Shimano Kaido, a road that crosses six spectacular bridges and several islands, forming a route between Shikoku and mainland Honshu.
