    Located in Shimotakai-gun, Nagano Prefecture, the Takatengahara Mammoth Ski Area is in the central area of the Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, with a flat, single piste up to the summit of Higashidateyama, and is open to intermediate and advanced skiers alike. The Takatengahara Summer Lift, available during the green season, is a 4-seater high-speed lift that allows you to enjoy a speedy walk in the air while viewing the seasonal flowers and grasses in bloom at your feet.

You’ll find three small pathways here, each of which offers a different natural experience.

Situated 1,000 meters above sea level, the area sees heavy snowfalls and visitors can enjoy skiing here in winter. During warmer seasons, the area remains relatively cool and is a perfect destination for outdoor sports. The 50-kilometer-long Madarao Highland Trekking Trail spans the area and the starting point of the 80-kilometer-long Shinetsu Trail can also be found here.

The Jib Highland Ski Area, located nearby, sees a great many visitors in winter.

    A highland located 800 meters above sea level at the foot of the Kiso Mountains (Central Alps). Known as the highest highland area in the Ina Valley, visitors can view such picturesque sights as the Senjojiki Cirque, a valley formed through glacial erosion; Onuma Lake, and Komagaike Pond. The Komagatake Ropeway can be used to reach the top of Mt. Kisokoma, also known as Mt. Komagatake, and the area is a popular destination for mountain climbers. A ski resort also operates in the area in winter.

A resort area with things to see and do year-round, some of the highland's highlights include Hana no Sato, a resort where visitors can see one million zinnias; Fujimi's famous ""Golden Carpet,"" a renowned destination for fall foliage viewing; and ski resorts notable for their broad, gentle slopes."
