    This is a beautiful highland that spreads out around Mt. Kuruma, the highest peak in the Kirigamine Mountain Range, where around 600 types of alpine plants grow. The view from Mt. Kuruma’s summit is exquisite, overlooking the Southern Alps (Akaishi Mountains), Mt. Fuji, Mt. Yatsugatake and the Asama Mountain Range. In summer one can enjoy hiking or trekking, and in winter skiing.

    Easy to climbing to the top from the nearest parking. We can enjoy its view like Kirigamine Prairie and Lake Shilakaba.

    Located at an altitude of over 1,000 meters, the Shiga Highlands occupy the bulk of the central area of Joshin’etsu-kogen National Park. This resort area features lakes, marshes, and bogs of all sizes, and you can enjoy physical activities such as trekking in summer and skiing in winter. The rich natural scenery is intimately intertwined with people’s lives, and in fact, this area has been designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

    A plateau resort 1,250 meters above ground, you’ll find a “romance area” with zinnias and rudbeckias, and in the “white birch area,” you’ll see Fujimi Kougen heremocallis, hydrangeas, and a number of seasonal blooms. There’s also an observation platform from which you can view Mt. Fuji, the South Alps (Akaishi Mountains), and the North Alps (Hida Mountains) on a sunny day, basking in the grandeur of nature. Handicapped individuals can borrow outdoors wheelchairs for free.

    富士見公園天空カートで頂上までいきます。上りも下りも、人が歩く速さで移動します。白樺が綺麗で、高山植物も見ながら進みます。快晴の天気はそれほど望めないとのことでしたが、幸運に恵まれ、頂上の展望台からは、綺麗が富士山を仰ぐことができました。次は、徒歩で挑戦したいです。

    Selected as one of the top 100 famous mountains in Japan, Kirigamine Highlands, at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level, extends 10 kilometers east to west and 15 kilometers north to south. In early summer the azaleas and daylilies are at their best, and from summer through to autumn you’ll find fireweed and silver grass in bloom. Lots of alpine plants can be spotted in these grassy meadows and visitors can get views of Mt. Fuji and the Yatsugatake Mountains from this popular scenic spot.

A variety of activity facilities are located in the area, including Kisouma no Sato, a horse ranch which raises native Kiso horses; museums; and local culture centers, in addition to restaurants, hot spring inns, and bed and breakfasts.

Visitors can also enjoy activities such as boating and strolling along the lakeshore. Anglers can fish for Japanese crucian carp on the lake and even go ice fishing for Japanese pond smelt in the winter.

Alpine plants such as Asian skunk cabbage, Japanese wood poppy, and Dryas pentapetala can be found in the park, which flower beautifully from June to August. The park is outfitted with approximately 5.5 kilometers of wooden footpaths for visitors to take leisurely strolls on.

    Yachiho Highland Natural Garden preserves the natural environment of Mt. Yatsugatake and is nearly 28 hectares large. You’ll find three small pathways here, each of which offers a different natural experience.
