Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is a lead temple in the Chisan school of Shingon located in Narita, Chiba Prefecture. In order to suppress a revolt by Tairano Masakado which broke out in the Heian period, it began with the fact that Kobo Daishi was spiritually enlightened by the high priest Kancho as Acala was enshrined and became the principal image of worship at the temple. Many well-known figures had strong faith including such figures as Minamotono Yoritomo, Mito Mitsukuni and Ichikawa Danjuro, and Narita Fudo prompted many commoners to have faith. On the grounds of the temple, there are very big gardens maintained which cover an area of approximately 3.5 times that of Tokyo Dome, and you can see seasonal plants in the garden.

In this park are transplanted all of the cherry trees that were about to be lost during the construction of Narita International Airport. Many people visit this park, located on an elevated knoll, where airplane takeoffs and landings can be watched up close while viewing the beautiful cherry blossoms.

A great spot to come and see the planes take off and land. Beautiful to visit during Sakura season and autumn but really good all year round for the planes!

It is a long-established eel restaurant located on the road approaching Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Every day, it is crowded with customers who come aiming to eat eel. The secret sauce enhances the flavor of the eel which has been gently grilled with proficient skill to retain a full texture: the secret sauce has continued to be added to the eel extract since the establishment of the business in 1910 during the Meiji period. The interior of the store is a place you can feel relieved as if you had come back to the countryside. Please be advised that seats cannot be guaranteed by making a reservation.

Well, demonstration was interesting, disappointed by actual unagi meal. The bones were not soft enough, annoying! That was the third unagi meal I had in this trip and not impressed at all.

The full name of this temple is Meishozan Toshoji Temple Sogo Reido, but this temple is better known as just Sogo Reido or Sogo-sama. In the early part of the Edo period (1603-1868), peasants suffering due to poor harvests and high taxes decided to appeal directly to the shogun, but in exchange for a reassessment of taxes, the headman of the Sakura domain, Kiuchi Sogoro, was executed along with his family. He is enshrined as Sakura Sogo, a name derived from his Buddhist name, Sogodokankoji

This shrine is located in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture. The over 1,300-year old large Japanese cedar tree on the grounds is said to be the biggest in eastern Japan, and has now become popular as a power spot. Besides the Setsubun Festival and Otaue Festival (rice-planting festival) held in February and April, there is also an annual festival praying for bountiful harvests and to ward off evil on the last Sunday of July.

An incredible x rated shrine. Well worth a visit - hilarious with somber overtones. Quite extraordinary.

This is a Japanese confectionery shop, founded in 1899, located on the Omotensando Road in Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. It is known as the shop that introduced chestnut yokan, sweet bean jelly, to Japan and the jelly was based on the vegetarian cuisine ‘chestnut soup’ of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple. The sweet bean jellies such as the Gokujo-oozao-youkan made by traditional methods, are famous and have been loved for many years as a souvenir of pilgrims to Naritasan. The Peanuts Monaka, a sweet using peanuts, a special product of Chiba, as well as standard Japanese sweets such as kintsuba and dorayaki, and seasonal sweets are also available.

Ive noticed each time I went to this shop that the shop assistants were not friendly. They had only one kind of yokan (mushi-yokan) for tasting. It was nice to have a tiny piece with a cup of tea...
