- Located at the point where the Kitakawa River and Waga River meet, the Kitakami Tenshochi Park is a municipal park which is referred to as one of the three famous cherry blossom spots in Michinoku (Tohoku). The name “Tenshochi”, meaning beauty spot, comes from the wonderful view of the cherry blossom seen from Jingaoka Hill. 10,000 cherry blossom trees and 100,000 azaleas are planted at the approximately 30,000 square meter site, and in 1990 the park was selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots. The Sakura Matsuri Festival (cherry blossom festival) is held each year from the middle of April to the beginning of May, with lots of tourists coming to visit at this time.

- This park is located around a 25-minute drive from the Wakayanagi-Kannari Interchange off of the Tohoku Highway via the National Route 183 and National Route 342. The park blooms with flowers all year round, but the peony garden with over 320 cultivars and 4000 peony plants is a main attraction and also the beautiful begonia conservatory, Reina de Flores. Often called the king of one hundred flowers, the peony, is at its peak from around early May, but in late April the park hosts the Peony Festival, which encompasses the Chinese peony season as well. Local produce is sold at the exchange plaza, and the restaurant offers a set combination tray with five mochi flavors that differ every day throughout the year.

- This park was built on the site of Ichinoseki Castle. The hilltop castle was originally constructed to take advantage of the topography of the small hill that was called Tsuriyama. The castle was demolished in the Meiji period and the area became the park it is today. Inside the park, visitors can see Japanese gardens, and the castle ruins, including remains of the moat and a well. The park is slightly elevated in comparison to its surroundings and visitors can enjoy a view that overlooks the town of Ichinoseki from the hilltop. It is also famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot, and many people come to see the blossoms during the season.

- A nature park built to commemorate the 1993 marriage of Crown prince Naruhito. Located in the Ishiwada district with the winding Idegawa River, sites include the sheer cliffs along the river as well as silicified wood. There are also lots of seasonal flowers such as wisteria and lilies, as well as colored foliage in the fall. An observatory has a view overlooking the city, and lots of visitors come for the hiking course too. Its many other highlights include historic features such as Atago Shrine at the top of the park and the site of Numajiri Castle, as well as a monument to poets with ties to Morioka City such as Tachihara Michizo and Takeshima Shigetaro.

Iwate Areas
A northern Tohoku prefecture promising peace and quiet, Iwate is sparsely populated, replacing people with snow-capped mountains, history-rich sites, and fields of crops that are to thank for the region’s delicious local cuisine. Meander along the three-city Golden Route, where you’ll visit the grand Buddhist temples of Hiraizumi and the Tono folk villages before tasting the three famed noodle dishes of Morioka.
