Tanohata Banya Ecotourism is the idea behind their nature experience programs. There are lots of hands-on activities that let you get in touch with nature, including riding in a small fishing boat known as a sappa, making your own shell art, etc. A guide will accompany you trekking on the Kitayamazaki Nature Trail, which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best walks. The guide speaks in a friendly Tohoku dialect.

    Shared tourist taxis run from Tanohata Station. Trekking is available with local guides along the Michinoku Shiokaze Trail, including Kitayamazaki. You can take in highlights such as earthquake remnants, the Unosu Cliff Nature Trail, and the Kitayamazaki Nature Trail, which has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Walks.     This limited-time sport from July to September is when you try to reach the goal across large and small waterfalls while walking and swimming in the river against the flow of the Uchimaki mountain streams. You can enjoy the exhilaration and thrills while feeling the stream of the river and the clear air of the forest. Beginners can feel at ease because it is led by an instructor. Everyone from elementary school-age children can participate, and it is perfect for families. To join, contact the Furusato Taiken Gakushu Kyokai. The meeting place for the activity is the Uchimagi Visitor Center.

    Located about a 90-minute drive from Morioka-minami Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway, this comprehensive recreation park is situated on a hill overlooking the Heigawa River. Centered on the “Yuttarikan,” an exchange promotion center where you can enjoy five types of hot water and saunas, it has indoor sports grounds covered with all-weather artificial turf, automobile campgrounds and other facilities scattered across its ten hectares. It is an outdoor spot where you can fully experience rich nature, such as fishing and canoeing experiences on the Heigawa River, wild bird watching, nature walks and pottery experiences. You can even get a complete view of the star-filled sky overhead.

    Koropokkuru Land is located about a five-minute drive from the Kunohe Interchange on the Hachinohe Expressway. It is a general-purpose leisure spot in a forest of Japanese larch trees in the foothills of Mt. Oritsumedake inside the Oritsume Basenkyo Prefectural Natural Park. It was created for the objective of facilitating interactions between villagers and city residents, and it contains the Tohoku region's first officially approved BMX course and BMX park, along with a playground and campground. Visitors can stay in a treehouse with a steep roof and use outdoor cooking facilities, and engage in other outdoor activities that are ideal for families. They can also bathe in the management building known as the Kunohe Village Interaction Promotion Center.

    This park is located about a twenty-minute drive from the Kunohe Interchange on the Hachinohe Expressway. It is an outdoor spot where visitors can fully experience the natural wonders of the Mt. Oritsume-dakeinside the Oritsume Basenkyo Prefectural Natural Park. At the restaurant in the park, visitors can try handmade soba noodles made entirely from locally grown buckwheat or Tartary buckwheat, as well as making their own soba noodles. A full range of campsites and cottages are available and are recommended as bases for climbing Mt. Oritsume or hiking. Nearby is Dake no Wakkutsu, one of Iwate Prefecture's twenty most famous natural springs, which supposedly grants a long life to those who drink its waters. The park is open from mid-April to the end of October.

In addition to permanently installed tents and bungalows and campsites equipped with wooden athletic equipment, the site contains a barbecue house, tennis courts, and multi-purpose facilities, as well as experiential learning events, such as woodworking lessons, a store that sells handcrafted items, a restaurant, and a folk museum.
