    Shorisato-cho, Shari-gun, Hokkaido Utorokagawa 180
Located in a corner of the Shiretoko hot spring district overlooking Utoro Fishing Port, Banya is a Japanese izakaya bar operated by a former fisherman. Thanks to its close proximity to the fishing port, Banya's menu consists of an abundant variety of fresh seafood. Particularly popular are the whelk and the salmon. Another nice feature of Banya is that unlike many other seafood restaurants which close in winter in Hokkaido, Banya operates per its usual business hours throughout the season. The restaurant has counter and tatami mat seating and a welcoming atmosphere which makes it easy for anything from individuals to groups to enter.

Hokkaido Main Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
