新飯塚駅から徒歩で5分ほど。 入館料は200円。 日曜日の午前中でしたが、空いていました。 かつての炭鉱の町である飯塚市なので、 個人的には炭鉱関係の展示を期待していましたが、 メインは古代(弥生時代)の遺跡関係の展示のようです。 それでも炭鉱関係の写真や現物を見ると その時代への思いがこみ上げてきます。

向野堅一記念館の6月は、各土曜日5日間のみ開業とのこと。訪問時は平日につき近代建築として外観見学のみの予定で訪問しました。 ところが、周囲には無料有料とも利用可能な駐車場が見当たらないうえ、建物前の路上には記念館関係者かと思われる駐車場車両があるので写真映えもせず、ガッカリでした。
