    A museum located on the grounds of Maritime Self Defense Forces Kanoya Air Base. The museum presents information and rare items spanning the time period from when the naval Kanoya flying corps was created in 1936 up to and including the history of the current Maritime Self Defense Forces Kanoya Air Base. The second floor of the museum provides information on topics such as the rapid developments which occurred in aviation technology in the 30-year frame from when naval aviation began; and a full portrait of the kamikaze fighters which emerged as part of Japan’s strategies during the Pacific War. The first floor of the museum presents history from the launching of the Coastal Safety Force in 1952 up to its reformation as the Maritime Self Dense Forces and on to the present day.

    You can see only one existing Kawanishi H8K a.k.a. Emily which was displayed in the U.S.A. after the 2nd world war and then brought to Tokyo and finaly here. This admission free Naval airforce museum...

    This is a museum where you can learn about the history, nature and life of the Amami archipelago including Riccho, Yoron Town, Yoron Island. The fifth floor observation deck, the highest floor on the island, offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding area, and on days with good weather, the northern part of Okinawa and the neighboring islands can also be seen. You can enjoy exhibitions on different themes such as the sea and life from the first floor to the fourth floor. It also exhibits paintings by Masatoshi Ikeda, an artist from Yoron Island, items that belonged to Yoko Mori, who loved Yoron, and bicycles used in movies. It also introduces the special products and dialects of Yoron for an enjoyable tour.

    A literature museum located a seven-minute walk from Asahidori Station on the Kagoshima City Tram bound for Kagoshima Station and leaving from JR Kagoshima-Chuo Station. Visitors can come in contact with literary works connected to Kagoshima through the museum’s permanent exhibit, which looks at 28 writers with a particularly strong link to the area. The adjoining Marchen Fairy Tale Museum is fun for adults as well as children, and visitors can feel like they’re in their very own fairy tale through exhibits such as trick art, playground equipment, and seasonal events and decorations. A joint admission ticket which includes entry to both facilities is available.

    This exhibit facility was created by the Ministry of the Environment after Yakushima Island become a World Heritage Site in 1993. It informs visitors about subjects including the charms of the Yakushima World Natural Heritage site and Yakushima National Park, the origins of the island's nature, and environmental conservation efforts on the island. Exhibits including informational panels about the World Heritage Site and sound gallery featuring a collection of audio recordings of Yakushima's unique nature allow visitors to enjoy deepening their knowledge of the environment. Many visitors to the center also visit the adjacent Yakusugi Nature Museum.

    Located near the Sendai Nuclear Power Plant, this museum uses a life-sized, 12-meter-tall model of a nuclear reactor and a scale model of the entire plant to explain the mechanisms behind nuclear power generation. Visitors can also receive a guided 60-minute tour of the museum.

    原発の歴史がわかり、いろいろ学べて見識が深くなりました。アクセスも道路一本で行けてとてもよかったです。

    Tanegashima Island is thought to have been strongly connected with rice since ancient times. This museum features exhibits related to red rice, which is believed to have been introduced to the island long, long ago from the south. Exhibits cover subjects including the folk customs involving red rice practiced at the Homan Shrine as well as the culture of rice cultivation on Tanegashima Island. Visitors can learn about Minamitane Town through a video about the town's highlights, performing arts, events, and more that is played in the museum's theater. There is also a museum shop that sells red rice, akagome amazake (a sweet drink made from fermented red rice), and other great souvenirs.

    A science museum located a 15-minute drive from the Kagoshima Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway. Through facilities such as Japan’s only large film projector-equipped dome cinema and planetarium, the museum presents the laws of the natural world, science and technology, and outer space in a way that is fun and easy to understand. Numerous interactive exhibits include the Sakurajima Sky Cycle, a pedal powered flight simulator which visitors can use to “fly” over Sakurajima; an earthquake simulator through which visitors can experience everything from what mild to strong earthquakes feel like; and a wind simulator which lets visitors experience what truly powerful winds can do. This is a fun-filled destination great for families with children.

    科学館自体は、ありふれた施設です。 定期的にやっているイベントなど、子どもたちが楽しめる仕掛けはよいと思います。 プラネタリウムは、期待せずに見たのですが、予想以上に楽しめました。 また機会があれば、プラネタリウムは見てもいいなと思います。

    This museum is dedicated to conveying the history of the Satsuma Jigen-ryu, a school of swordsmanship passed down in Satsuma for centuries. The museum features a modern design and has an attached training hall. The facility is built on the site of the residence of the Togo family that taught Jigen-ryu school of swordsmanship to the samurai of the Satsuma Domain. The museum features exhibits on subjects including the philosophy of the Jigen-ryu, the school's training methods, and the handling of a Japanese sword. A collection of the family's historic documents is also display.

    市内市中心部でなかなか訪れる機会のなかった場所で初めて来ました。展示、ビデオ鑑賞、道場見学で構成されていました。ビデオと道場が独特です。訪問者が少ない時だったからかビデオ鑑賞中と道場はスタッフが解説してくれました。屋内とはいえ、道場は下が土で冬は寒いだろうと思いました。地面に立ててある稽古の棒は定期的に倒れてしまい交換だそうです。国内でも関東などの遠方から稽古に来る人もいるとのことでしたが、道場は...

    This railway museum is adjacent to Yoshimatsu Station, which is a stop for the Limited Express Isaburo / Shinpei. Visitors can learn about the Hisatsu Line, which was built by the Japanese Government Railways. The museum's centerpiece is the JNR Class C55 steam locomotive on display in the outdoor plaza. Visitors can enjoy getting an up-close look at this rare rolling stock, a certified Heritage of Industrial Modernization. Other exhibits include photographs of steam locomotives, station attendant uniforms, and more.

    吉松駅は比較的大きな駅ですが、その外にこじんまりとあります。自動ドアではないので、自力であけて入って問題ありません。水曜日は近くの売店と合わせて定休日のようなので、注意が必要かと思われます。最寄りのコンビニまではあるいて10分ほどかかります。

    This museum is located in Nakatane Town in central Tanegashima Island. It studies and exhibits archeological artifacts, folk cultural properties, and other items that substantiate the history that built the island's rich indigenous culture. The museum's second floor exhibits relics discovered in the Tachikiri Ruins, believed to be Japan's oldest settlement. Visitors can look back on the history of the island from the Paleolithic era to today. The first floor features a recreation of a home of the Taisho to Showa periods. Other exhibits on the first floor include farming implements and other everyday items that were once actually used, a sugar cane press, and Tanegashima's last dugout canoe.

    "This two-story history museum is located inside Jigenji Park. Visitors can learn about the lives of the city's people and the history of its development. The museum's permanent exhibit hall features artifacts excavated from the Fudoji Temple archeological site including a fragment of a broken mirror designated as a cultural property of Kagoshima City. The museum also features an exhibit about the UNESCO World Heritage Site ""Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining"" listed in 2015. The museum's also offers popular hands-on activities in which participants can create items such as magatama beads and earthenware (reservation required)."

    A center which provides information on the natural beauty and culture of Kirishima located at the foot of Mt. Takachihonomine. The center is divided into seven areas. There’s a terrain model of the Kirishima Mountains and informational panels on the development of area volcanoes, fossil specimens on display, and panels with illustrations which teach visitors about rules and proper manners for nature observation as well as how best to enjoy the area’s mountains. Visitors can experience the summit of Mt. Takachihonomine in a panoramic section which makes use of a model of the Ama-no-Sakahoko three tined spear statue at the mountain’s summit as well as photographs. In the center’s mini theater, visitors can learn about the nature in Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park.

    This museum is located a 20-minute bus ride from Makurazaki Station on the JR Ibusuki Makurazaki Line. The town of Bonotsu is counted as one of Japan's three greatest harbors and has flourished through trade since ancient times. Visitors to the museum can view historically valuable exhibits, including Buddhist cultural artefacts, with a focus on sea trade goods, tools used in sea trading, and other items connected to trade. Exhibits include a National Important Cultural Property-designated silk painting depicting the eightfold bath of Buddhism and Nirvana, and sacred texts from the Bonotsu Ichijoin Temple designated a Cultural Property by the prefectural government.

    An environment-themed public facility located a five-minute walk from the “Shinshoin,” “Somuta,” and “Harasho-mae” bus stops, and a seven-minute walk from the “Josai Koen-mae” bus stop.” Entry is free. The facility is divided into four environmentally conscious areas which look at greenery, water, air, and light; each area contains exhibits based on the principles of discovery, awareness, learning, and action. The facility holds a variety of interactive and participatory events throughout the year, and visitors can have fun while learning about environmental issues. The facility is an ideal destination for children assigned an independent research project. There’s also a reuse and recycle shop and the facility holds an environmentally friendly flea market.

The Tsubobatake restaurant serves authentic Chinese dishes made with Sakamoto black vinegar. The restaurant also offers seasonal dishes as well as black vinegar beverages and desserts, and diners can savor black vinegar cuisine while enjoying a view of the facility’s jar field and Sakurajima.

    This museum is located at the entrance of the work tunnels used to carve the underground tanks of the Kushikino National Underground Oil Reserve Base, Japan's first national oil reserve base. The museum is divided into four sections featuring intuitive hands-on exhibits that teach visitors about subjects including petroleum and how the oil reserve base works. The base is comprised of 10 underground oil tanks carved out of the bedrock capable of holding a total of 1.75 million kiloliters of oil. This volume, which is the equivalent volume of around 1.4 Tokyo Domes (a multipurpose stadium), is roughly the amount of oil that Japan uses in about three days.

    This museum is located about a 10-minute drive from Amami Airport. The left side of the museum features two permanent exhibit halls dedicated to the archaeology and folk culture of the Amami Islands, respectively. The right side of the museum is a Special Exhibit Hall where visitors can learn about the history and origins of the island through exhibits including archaeological artifacts uncovered locally in Kasari-cho and taxidermy specimens of local wildlife. The Archaeological Exhibit Hall exhibits artifacts dating from the Paleolithic era to the Middle Ages in chronological order. There is something for people of all ages to enjoy at the museum thanks to the broad range of subjects including archaeology, history, and folk customs covered by its ample exhibits.

It is located near Prefectural Route 83 near the southern tip of the island inside the remodeled building of a former agricultural high school. The exhibits are divided into three sections: nature, traditional artifacts, and archeology. In addition to traditional items used in the 19th and early to mid-20th centuries and rock samples, visitors are intrigued by the earthenware vessels and buried human bones excavated at the ruins of the Tokunoshima Kamuiyaki Pottery Kiln.     "This history and folklore museum is located in Amagi Town a five-minute drive from Tokunoshima Kodakara Airport. The word ""yui"" refers to the spirit of mutual help and encouragement that the people of the island have cherished since ancient times, and means ""community"" and ""exchange of labor""."" Based on the five basic principles of gathering, nurturing, playing, showing and learning, which the islanders learned in their daily lives, we can learn about life from the Jomon period (about 1,000 BC-300 BC) to the Heian period (794-1185), Showa period (1926-1989) and to the present day. There is also a area that describes the relationship between Takamori Saigo and Tokunoshima Island, and an actual sabani (traditional small wooden boat) unique to the island's culture is also on display."

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture’s most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinks - shochu.
