"This bathing facility at Tawarayama Onsen has a long history that spans over 1,000 years. It was rebuilt in 2004 and has indoor and outdoor baths, footbaths and pet baths. The source used is the ""Kawanoyu source,"" which is an alkaline simple spring. You can enjoy the water flowing directly from the spring source in bathtub No. 1 and the mixed spring water in bathtub No. 2 and the outdoor bath. Not only the bathtubs but the washrooms and changing rooms are spacious as well, so it is known for being comfortable to use. In addition, there is a footbath and a drinking fountain onsite."

    Yamaguchi Nagato-shi Misuminaka 251-6
This day-use hot spring is located about a five-minute drive from Nagato Misumi Station. The spacious building has baths such as a large bath, outdoor bath, cascade bath and bubble bath. In the summer, you can also use the outdoor bath with water that flows directly from the source. The great feeling hot water an alkaline simple spring that is clear and colorless. Because there is a dining room where you can enjoy local seafood inside the building and a tennis court and park outside, children and adults can enjoy it while taking a bath.

"This day-use bathing facility is located on a hill overlooking Fukawa Bay. From the spacious bathtubs with large windows, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Omi Island. The view from the outdoor bath is exceptional, and it has great appeal because you can take a bath while looking at the ""isaribi"" (brilliant lights used to lure fish) at night."

    Yamaguchi Nagato-shi Fukawayumoto
This hot spring district is the oldest in Yamaguchi Prefecture and during the Edo period countless samurai lords came here seeking its healing waters. According to legend, the area's hot springs were discovered in 1427 after a priest meditating at the Tainei-ji Temple received a revelation from the god Sumiyoshi Daimyojin. In ancient times, the bathhouses making use of these miraculous waters were divided into two areas (reito and onto), reito for priests and samurai, and onto for commoners. The area's highly alkaline simple springs are colorless. Their waters are gentle on the skin and said to grant beauty to women in addition to treating nerve pain and muscle soreness and aiding recovery from fatigue. There is a garden-style footbath area with an arbor located in Otozuregawa Kasen Park, as well as a high temperature footbath along the park's walking path following the Otozure River.

    Yamaguchi Nagato-shi Tawarayama Onsen
One of just 21 hot spring districts designated as a National Health Hot Spring, Tawarayama Onsen was discovered 1,100 years ago in 916 during the early Heian period. In the early Edo period, the district was operated directly by the Mohri clan, which ruled Choshu Domain. Since the Meiji period, the Machi no Yu spring has been renowned for treating rheumatism and nerve pain, the Kawa no Yu (now called the Hakuen no Yu) skin diseases and burns, and the Masa no Yu gastrointestinal disorders. Research has shown that these simple alkaline hot springs contain an abundance of hydrogen dissolved in their waters, giving them powerful restorative and antiaging properties. Bathing in the area's hot springs for their health benefits is particularly popular with those suffering from rheumatism. In addition to lodging facilities, there are also day trip hot spring bathhouses and footbaths in the area, making this a great place to stop by while traveling through the region.

Yamaguchi Areas

around-area-map

Heading west along Japan’s largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you’ll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we’re not talking just the usual fish dishes - the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
