The hotel’s bathhouse is supplied by a simple spring and a simple sulfur spring, and bathers can relax in a large indoor bath or outdoor bath. The waters of the simple spring can also be drunk for health benefits. The bathhouse is open to non-guests, and the hotel also boasts four outdoor baths which can be privately reserved for ultimate relaxation. The hotel serves traditional Japanese kaiseki course cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from Kagoshima.

A hot spring hotel situated on the edge of Kinko Bay near the “Kyukamura Ibusuki” bus stop. A free footbath constantly replenished from a source spring “kakenagashi” style and hammocks caressed by sea breezes can be found in the Sun Terrace area in front of the lobby. The woody fragrance of the lobby engenders a gentle atmosphere. The magnificent view of Kinko Bay from the hotel’s guest rooms further enhance the southerly, tropical resort mood. You can refresh body and mind in the main building’s Chirin no Yu bathhouse; Ibusuki’s famous sand baths; and a private reservable semi-outdoor private bath with a stunning view you’ll have all to yourself. A long-standing ryokan inn, one of the top in the Hinatayama Onsen hot spring district. In addition to the guest rooms in the main building, the inn has five detached tea ceremony arbor-style Japanese rooms which emphasize elegance and taste. These detached rooms are also equipped with their own outdoor bath. The hotel’s outdoor baths, indoor bathing area, and dedicated outdoor baths of the detached rooms are filled from the Hinatayama Onsen hot spring, whose waters are said to beautify the skin and were a favorite of samurai Saigo Takamori’s. The inn’s bathhouse offers a full array of amenities, as well, making it a perfect destination for non-guests in the area who suddenly feel the desire to enjoy a hot spring day trip. The inn serves authentic kaiseki course cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from Kagoshima; the Japanese garden visible from the dining area is attractive on clear days but gains a particular elegance during rainy weather. The inn’s name means the “Field Crane Arbor,” and like the tired crane resting its weary wings in a lush field, customers can come here to relax and ease away their cares.

The Japanese-style room is very luxurious and comfortable, and you can enjoy a delicious dinner in the room. The hotel staff will introduce each dish very kindly while serving, which is a good...

A sand bath facility located a 10-minute drive from JR Yamakawa Station. A natural sand bath site heated by the geothermal energy of the Fushime Onsen hot spring, the sand baths have been a favorite of locals since ancient times. Surrounded by abundant natural beauty and with Kaimondake Volcano towering in the distance, bathers enveloped in hot sand can relax to the sound of ocean waves. The sweat generated from the weight of the sand and hot spring heat rids the body of toxins. After a sand bath, a bath in the waters of Fushime Onsen feels spectacular. Money saving tickets which include access to the adjoining Tamatebako Onsen outdoor hot spring bath facility, known for its spectacular views, are also available.

This is a more out of the way, quieter sand bathing onsen. A very well organised operation and the sand bath is a great experience. No English spoken but there are a few posters with some English...

A hotel facing the sea in Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture. The white walled hotel building, modeled after a south seas resort, boasts 100 years of history and tradition. Past the lobby, which has an old-fashioned, stately atmosphere, visitors will find stunning views of Kinko Bay in the spacious guest rooms. The hotel’s biggest draws, however, are its outdoor bath covered with a thatch roof resembling a Japanese garden, and a rejuvenating cascading waterfall bath. The baths are constantly refilled “kakenagashi” style from a sodium chloride spring whose waters are said to treat such ailments as rheumatism and burns. Bathers can enjoy a truly exceptional and relaxing time in the hotel’s baths enwrapped in the aroma of the sea and the sound of crashing waves.

A hidden inn located close to the “Ushidoko Koen” bus stop. Each of the inn’s four wooden cottages, surrounded by natural beauty and situated on the bank of the Shiratanigawa River, are filled with touches which speak of the owner’s care and taste. One of the inn’s biggest draws is that it enables guests to relax and feel like they are in their very own home while at the same time taking in the delights of Japan through a bath carved out of a 1,000 year old Yakushima cedar, a Goemon bath heated underneath by firewood, and a traditional irori sunken hearth. The inn overflows with hospitality, and elements like the handmade informational signs and picture scrolls, and a class provided by the inn in which you can make your very own chopsticks while experiencing the fragrance and age of long-lived Yakushima cedar, provide guests with a truly special stay.

Kagoshima Areas

around-area-map

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures. The prefectural capital, Kagoshima city, looks out to one of the prefecture's most spectacular volcanoes, Sakurajima, an island of its own that can be visited and seen close up or admired from afar, with the promise of breathtaking sunsets complete with frequent puffs of smoke and ash. Down the Satsuma Peninsula, the most southerly part of mainland Japan, waterfalls, sand onsen, and fascinating history await, while Kagoshima's abundance of satsuma imo (sweet potato) provide a wholesome snack as well as one of Japan's favourite drinks - shochu.
