This is a mountain in Shimoda City. The mountain got its name from the ridge line at the crest which looks like the outline of a woman sleeping on her back. An aerial tramway near the IzukyuShimoda Station connects passengers to the peak of the mountain from which a panoramic view of downtown Izu, Mt. Amagi, and the seven islands of Izucan been seen.

short ride ropeway to the hill to enjoy the whole shimoda view. not very big but good place to visit

This is a mountain of 580 meters above sea level in Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture. There is a crater on the summit with a diameter of about 300 meters, and you can also enjoy walking around the circumference of the crater. The purpose of “Yamayaki” (burning the dead grass off a mountain) which has been done for more than 700 years was in order to obtain Japanese nutmeg which was formerly used as animal feed for livestock. Nowadays, it is done on the second Sunday in February every year, and many people visit for sightseeing. The mountain was designated as a Natural Monument of Japan in 2010.

    Shizuoka Pref. Tagatagunkannamichou Kuwahara 1400-20
"The ""Ten-Country Pass"" gets its name from the fact that it offers a vast view of the ten old countries of Izu, Suruga, Totoumi, Kai, Shinano, Sagami, Musashi, Kazusa, Shimousa, and Awa. From the peak, you can see Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, Suruga Bay, Miura Peninsula, and even all the way to Boso Peninsula in Chiba on a clear day. It's popular for the hiking available at the peak, too."

It is also called the ""Amagi Mountains"" or ""Amagi Mountain Range."" During the flower-blooming season, you can see clusters of Japanese andromeda and rhododendron. Named one of ""Japan's Top 100 Mountains"", it is visited by many mountain climbers."

    Shizuoka Pref. Kakegawashi Higashiyama
"A mountain with the altitude of 532 meters located in Higashiyama, Kakegawa City. At the top of the mountain, in addition to Awawa Shrine, there is a rest area, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including tea plantations, Mt. Fuji, and Suruga Bay. It is also known as the cherry blossom viewing spot, and a cherry blossom festival is held every spring at Awawa Shrine. In May 2019, ""the World Agricultural Heritage Tea Grass Field Terrace (nicknamed Kapposhi Terrace)"" opened at the top of the mountain; this cafe offers a menu including items using carefully selected local tea leaves, making it a place to relax and enjoy the scenery."

  • Mt. Okusa

    Shizuoka Hamamatsu-shi Chuo-ku Kanzanjicho 1891
This 113-meter-high mountain is located on the shore opposite Kanzanji Onsen. An observatory on top of the mountain is connected via ropeway to the Hamanako Palpal amusement park at the foot, and from here visitors can get a sweeping view encompassing the Enshu Sea and even Mt. Fuji. Towering on a peninsula jutting out from the northeast shore of Lake Hamana, it is believed the mountain was formed via a rocky mountain consisting of the Chichibu Belt layer accumulated some 200 to 400 million years ago which protruded out to form an island. Part of the Mikatahara gravel bed can be seen at the foot of the mountain. The mountain is covered in Japanese red pine and there are walking paths, and visitors can go on a relaxing nature walk.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
