  • Hatsushima Island
    Travel / Tourism
    Shizuoka Pref. Atamishi Hatsushima
"Island resort ""Hatsushima"", two hours from Tokyo and 30 minutes from Atami by high-speed boat, is a place you can enjoy in a variety of ways only possible on a lonely island, such as marine sports, glamping, adventure island Votan, and so on. Considered a natural fishing reef, Hatsushima is a treasure-trove of seafood, so you can thoroughly enjoy the best food, whether at the restaurant district with its fresh bounty of the sea, island cafes with Asian cuisine and sake, or even seafood barbeque."
  • Awashima Island
    Travel / Tourism
    Shizuoka Pref. Numadushi Uchiurashigedera
This island in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture is located in the innermost reaches of Suruga Bay at the border between Uchiura Bay and Enoura Bay. Until 2017 it was famous for having one of Japan's only overwater aerial cars. The naturally lush island is the location of Awashima-jinja Shrine and is home to rare species of insect, making it a fun place to explore.
  • Sanshiro Islands
    Travel / Tourism
    Shizuoka Pref. Kamogunnishizuchou Nishina
Located roughly 200 meters off the Nishi-Izu coast, “Sanshiro Islands” is the collective name for the four islands of Denbei Island , Nakano Island, Okinose Island, and Taka Island. The name “Sanshiro Islands” (“Three-Four Islands”) derives from the fact that, depending on which angle you view the Islands from, there sometimes appear to be only three islands, rather than four. On days when the tidal level is less than 30 centimeters, during the period between roughly one hour before low tide and one hour after low tide, a “tombolo” causeway appears that connects the Sehama Coast to Denbei Island; this tombolo has been designated a Prefectural Natural Monument. The tombolo can be seen during the daytime between February and mid-October (the exact times vary from day to day).

Shizuoka Main Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
