  • Mt. Kurama

    This 584-meter high mountain is located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. Known as a sacred mountain, it flourished as the site of Japanese mountain asceticism practiced by esoteric Buddhism. The area around the mountain has a lot of indigenous vegetation, and bustles in the spring and autumn with people coming to see cherry blossoms and the changing leaves. Currently, it is even gaining popularity as a power spot.
  • Mt. Hiei

    This mountain's highest peak is 848 meters high, and spans Kyoto City in Kyoto Prefecture to Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. You can pay to go to Hiei Sancho Station using the Keifuku Electric Railway Eizan Ropeway. In addition, many tourists go to the Garden Museum Hiei art museum and other facilities. At Eizan Cable's Cable Hiei Station, the Hiei Yama Beer Garden is held every year around August.
  • Mt. Funaoka

    This 112-meter high mountain is located in Kita Ward, Kyoto. A nationally designated Historic Site, the surrounding area is Mt. Funaoka Park. Complete with a hiking course, you can look over all of Kyoto along with the scenery of every season from the summit. The location is also famous as a battleground in the Onin War.

    This 924-meter high mountain is located in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto. It can be climbed year-round, and is crowded with local climbers. At the peak sits Atago Shrine, famous for being visited by Mitsuhide Akechi. On every July 31st, many pilgrims visit the shrine for the Sennichi Mairi (1,000-day pilgrimage) to seek 1,000 days-worth of protection.
