Even among the number of “Houtou Fudou” stores which this chain has around Lake Kawaguchi, the Higashi koiji store among others has the most characteristic appearance. There are roughly 300 seats available within the white round building which is similar to a snow dome, so even large numbers of people can feel relieved and use it with confidence. The miso base soup which has been flavored with the savory taste of vegetables and mushrooms has a gentle flavor which goes very well with the homemade noodles.

This place being in the outskirts of Kawaguchi, we had to walk for about 25 min from our hotel, but it was worth it. Even though this extraterrestrial building is close to a big road, once youre...

Houtou (Fudou South Kawaguchi-ko Store) is dedicated solely to Houtou noodles-a Lake Kawaguchi standard. Enjoy Houtou noodles in their warehouse-like interior with expertly utilized natural lighting. It's great to savor their proud Houtou while gazing at Lake Kawaguchi and Mt. Fuji right in front of you. They also sell souvenirs like Houtou noodles and pickled goods.

Honjin Tsukasa is a noodle shop along National Route 300 on the shores of Lake Kawaguchi in Minamitsuru County, Yamanashi Prefecture. Among its signature dishes is Hoto (noodle and vegetable soup in a miso-based broth), a typical soup of the Koshu region, made with homemade noodles and natural water from the Fuji watershed. Other noodle dishes include Sanshu Soba is topped with tempura, wild plants, and grated yam; and Goma Udon, made with ground sesame. In addition to noodles, customers can enjoy Yoganyaki Beef, made with Koshu beef cooked on a slab of igneous rock, Shikaniku Curry made with venison shot by local hunters, and Shikaniku Tataki (lightly seared sliced venison with a dipping sauce). Dishes featuring wild plants are highlighted in the spring, and in the fall, mushrooms, wild plants, and wild game are highlighted.

Yamanashi prefecture is the proud home of one of Japan’s most celebrated icons: Mount Fuji. Although the mountain straddles both Yamanashi and Shizuoka, the most breathtaking views of Fuji-san can be seen from the Fuji Five Lakes north of the mountain in Yamanashi prefecture. The plethora of outdoor activities in and around the lakes all have the benefit of the country’s highest mountain as their backdrop, and we can assure you that it is an unforgettable sight.
