    This is a restaurant in Nagahama City where you can taste the home-cooked specialty of “Yakisaba Somen” (fine white noodles with grilled mackerel) which is characteristic of Kohoku. This specialty of boiled fine white noodles and meaty grilled mackerel arouses an appetite for a somewhat strong seasoning. The set menu is also substantial; there are also “O-zen” (a four-legged tray for festive food) which can be enjoyed together with grilled mackerel sushi and “Toban-yaki” (a roast on a ceramic plate) of Omi beef. The store now makes use of a merchant’s house constructed approximately 200 years ago, having in some respects an aura which feels nostalgic. It is also known as a famous shop where queues can be seen.

    Kosho Shijimi Kamameshi is a country-style restaurant located near the main gate of Ishiyamadera Temple. The signature dish is Clam Kamameshi (similar to risotto), and when diners lift the lid of the pot, the aroma is irresistible. The restaurant uses local Omi rice from Shiga Prefecture, a rich broth, a bit of soy sauce, and shijimi clams from Lake Biwa and cooks them together. Diners can choose from four dinners, and all of them include freshly made Clam Kamameshi and red miso soup with clams, although they all include different side dishes. A large helping of Omi no Obanzai (assorted seafood and vegetables) accompanied by a moderate helping of grebe is especially popular.

    A seven-minute walk from Shigaraki Kohgen Railway Shigaraki Station. This longstanding traditional ryotei restaurant was established in 1913 and serves Japanese cuisine made with fish from Lake Biwa, locally-grown vegetables, and other ingredients from Shiga. The restaurant's delicacies, hailing from the area's seas, mountains, lakes, and countryside, are also beautifully arranged on elegant Shigaraki ware tableware. The restaurant's signature Shinobi Sushi, the invention of an owner two generations removed from the current one, is a type of mackerel oshizushi (pressed sushi) accented with shiso seeds and gourd pickled in rich tamari soy sauce. Designated a recommended souvenir product by Shiga Prefecture, the Shinobi Sushi also makes a popular souvenir and gift. The restaurant's delightful seasonal tenshin (dim sum) is also recommended.

    Had a set menu lunch here. The kaiseki style food was excellent, and the service charming. Sake kasu pudding was delicious and unusual.

    A 10-minute walk from JR Shin-Asahi Station. This local cuisine restaurant adjoins Shinasahi Central Park right next to the Yasuragisoguchi bus stop. The restaurant serves meals based on the concept of local production for local consumption and uses safe, healthy ingredients. Ccustomers can enjoy the unique flavors of Takashima with choices like tonchan (local speciality seasoned chiken) and shoimeshi seasoned rice meals. The Nonohana Gozen meal is particularly recommended. The Hime Gozen daily meal special is limited to just 20 customers a day. The restaurant also sells homemade products and offers a conference room for rental. Normally, the restaurant is only open until 4 p.m., but with an advance reservation you can enjoy dinner here as well.

    This sweetfish cuisine restaurant is located a 10-minute walk from JR Kita-Komatsu Station. Comprised of a north building and a south building, the north building has sunken kotatsu seating and can only be used from April to October. In either building, customers can enjoy a view of Lake Biwa along with their meal. Menu highlights include a sweetfish assortment with your choice of three or five fish, a Koi carp course meal, and Omi-style kushiyaki grilled bamboo skewers made with delicious Omi beef and local chicken varieties. From 5 p.m. onward, the restaurant is reservation-only and only open to groups of 10 or more. Groups of two or more who make an advance reservation can make use of a free shuttlebus service from the station and back.

    This sushi restaurant is located in the Okubiwako Mizu no Eki tourist facility situated on National Route 8. The restaurant takes great pride in its funazushi fermented carp sushi made with fresh crucian carp from Lake Biwa. There's a light meal area where you can eat funazushi chazuke (covered with tea) made with the restaurant's famous funazushi, kaido sushi, seared funazushi, and duck soba among other choices. The restaurant is also a place where you can find some of Lake Biwa's most well-known local foods; the establishment sells tsukudani (soy sauce boiled preserved lake fish) and edible wild plants, small sweetfish stewed in soy sauce, and other souvenirs, as well as fresh vegetables and other local specialty products straight from the farm.

    This local Shiga cuisine restaurant has been in business for 130 years. The restaurant's dishes enable diners to savor the innate flavors of the ingredients used and are made with fish from Lake Biwa and seasonal foods. The restaurant's signature funazushi fermented carp sushi is made with just crucian carp, rice, and salt, and is fermented in traditional wooden buckets, resulting in sushi that is free from foul odors and off flavors, a fact the establishment takes great pride in. The restaurant's lunch menu is a collection of reasonably-priced Shiga delicacies, including the Sachi Gozen meal, an assortment of flavors from Lake Biwa; a hotpot meal made with delicious Omi beef; and Omi beef curry. For dinner, the restaurant primarily serves course meals, and diners can enjoy Shiga's local cuisine or, in winter, wild mallard cuisine.

    10000円の飲み放題付きふぐフルコースを楽しみました。焼きふぐを初めて食べましたが、ホクホクとしてもっちりした白身肉がとても美味でした。また来たいと大将に言ったところ、近く再開発の影響で移転するようなことを言っていました。再開店を願います。

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound. Covering an area of 670 square kilometers, Lake Biwa makes up the bulk of Shiga prefecture, with beautiful lakeside paths that offer myriad walking and cycling opportunities, connecting a string of museums, shrines, and picturesque views that finally lead you to Hikone Castle on the eastern side of the lake.
