    At 320 meters, this suspension foot bridge in Sekiya, Nasushiobara City is one of the longest in the country. It offers a great way to experience the magnificent natural setting of the Shiobara Valley. The nearby Shinrin-no-Eki Momijidani Suspension Bridge facility has a restaurant and a specialty shop.
  • Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge

    This suspension bridge spans the “Yahata Nature Study Path” in Yumoto, Nasu Town. The 38-meter-high, 130-meter-long bridge offers a sweeping view of the natural splendor of the Nasu Mountains. In addition to azalea season, the fall foliage and various blooms throughout the four seasons make for gorgeous scenery.
  • Nasu Highland Observatory (Lover's Sanctuary)

    This observatory is located at an altitude of 1,048 meters along Prefecture Route 17 in Yumoto, Nasu Town. During clear weather, you can enjoy an expansive view of the Nasu Mountains, Mt. Yamizo, and the Kanto Basin. It is also known for its spectacular night view. It is the 100th of the “Lover’s Sanctuary” sites.
  • Kurenai no Tsuribashi suspension bridge

    A 25 minute drive from the Nishinasuno-shiobara Interchange. A red suspension bridge crossing the Hoki River behind the Shiobara Imagination Archives. The bridge is 52.5 meters long. The Hoki River in the Shiobara Hot Springs Village district is dotted with hot springs with differing water qualities, and this area is known as the “11 springs of Shiobara.” The Kurenai no Tsuribashi suspension bridge is in the center of this area and the vicinity is famous as one of the top destinations in Shiobara for enjoying autumn foliage. The Japanese maples and other trees seen from the bridge are quite beautiful; there’s also a 900 meter long walking trail across the bridge which visitors can follow and take in their fill of fall colors and mountain stream scenery.
  • Mikaeri no Tsuribashi suspension bridge

    A 15 minute drive from the Nishinasuno-shiobara Interchange. A suspension bridge 100 meters long and 30 meters above the ground which also serves as the starting point of a walking path in the ravine area. The bridge can be reached in about five minutes by walking along the trail from the Gamaishi Park parking lot marked by a stone monument to the author Ozaki Koyo. The bridge’s name, meaning “to look back,” is derived from its beauty, which practically demands the visitors look back at it on their way home. There’s a viewing platform on the other side of the bridge from which you can see Mikaeri Falls, a large waterfall in the Shiobara Hot Springs Village area; this view is particularly spectacular in the autumn when the trees have turned red and gold.

Most visits to Tochigi revolve around Nikko, a small city home to the spectacular, lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine and Nikko National Park with its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, onsen, and wild monkeys. Neighboring Oku-Nikko is an extension of the fantastic scenery famous for its autumn leaves, while Tochigi’s capital, Utsunomiya, is the only place in the world where you can find oya stone beautifully exhibited in temples and the Oya History Museum.
