    Located in 1 Chome Omachi, Akita City, this historical resources museum has exhibits on Akita’s cultural arts, particularly the kanto lanterns used in the Akita Kanto Festival. It features a practice room and a conference room, and in summer, there is an event featuring performances of cultural arts. There is also a spot for actually getting acquainted with the kanto lanterns.

    This shows an outsider like myself how the festival is held and what is involved by those participating.

    This is a paid-entry ruins facility in Akita City Senshu Park. The four-story building has a museum on the first and second floors exhibiting materials and movies related to the Akita fief's Satake clan. The upper floor has an observation deck with views of Akita City's lovely scenery. It's a popular spot for those looking to get closer to area history and culture.

    It was a pity that when we visited the castle, it’s a cloudy and rainy and therefore, everywhere was dark. But looking at the snow scene, it looked really nice. After visiting multiple castles here...

    This is a museum of local history in Omachi Town, Akita City, Akita Prefecture, arranged in three buildings including the former Akita Bank headquarters “Red Brick House” constructed in 1912. Traditional craft items from Akita City are exhibited in the red brick building, designated as an important cultural property of Japan. Concerts are held annually in the magnificent atrium hall. The new building has memorial rooms for Akita-born woodblock print artist Katsuhira Tokushi and national treasure hammer artist Sekiya Shiro, as well as exhibitions relating to Akita’s history, folklore and art.

    This is a beautiful example of a building from the period; there are exhibits of local artists. One woodworking other a painter.

    Roadside Station Tenno/Tenno Green Land is full of tourist and shopping facilities. From the symbol of the area, Tenno Sky Tower, to farm-direct sales and a natural onsen, there's something for the whole family. There is a tourist information office, as well as the Lagoon People's Exhibition, featuring displays about Hachiro Lagoon. Displays include fishing equipment used before its reclamation, pictures of the area drawn by Edo period travel writer Sugae Masumi, and more.

    ここに立ち寄る前に道の駅あきた港にも立ち寄り展望台からの景色を見てきましたが、この道に駅にも展望台が、ありますので、寄らせていただきました。 展望台からは男鹿半島も見え、寒風山も見えます。 あきたの道の駅は他県と比べても豪華な建物が多いですね!

    One cannot miss this tourism spot at the entrance to the Oga Pennisula where two 15-meter high giant statues of Namahage, local ogres, are guarding its entrance. In addition to personalized tourism information from the staff, pamphlets of each area of the site are also available. A computer is also set up at the computer corner for instant information retrieval about the Oga area, while a video presentation of local events and tourist sites is also continuously playing on a screen to inform the visitors about the area. There are local specialty items for sale, and one can stop and enjoy a light meal at the cafe, or visit the outdoor stage and flower garden.

    The Oga Tourist Information Center has two huge statues of the Namahage Ogres. They are the famous ogres of Akita Prefecture which are 15 meters tall. All around the region, you will also find...

    A Shinto shrine in Senshu Park, Akita City. It was established in 1881 to enshrine the spirit of the late Edo period scholar Hirata Atsutane and when it was later moved to its current location it was expanded to include the spirit of late Edo period agricultural scholar Sato Nobuhiro. Prior to their May festival they hold a Mikoshi-Togyo festival in April where portable shrines are paraded from Hirata Atsutane's birth place to the center of Senshukoen.

    This shrine is a bit out of the way but very pleasant and larger than it appears at a distance, worth the few steps to visit it.

    This shrine is located on the mountainside of Mt. Taihei, and is known as the head shrine of all of the Miyoshi shrines throughout the country. Onamuchi-no-kami, Sukunabikona-no-kami and Miyoshi-no-okami are enshrined here, and are said to grant success in one's endeavors. People who seek further success in their endeavors also make their way up to the rear shrine located at the summit of the mountain, as well as people who have come to visit from places far and wide.

    A temple located along Prefectural Route 233 in Izumi-mitakene, Akita city. As the family temple for the Satake Family, feudal lords of the Akita domain, when the family was forced to relocate from Hitachi to Akita the temple also moved to its current location. The main hall and main gate are registered Important Cultural Properties of Japan and the temple grounds are registered as a Prefectural Historic Landmark. *The temple is closed to the public until fall of 2023 due to construction.

    立派な石畳、造詣が素晴らしい門、境内全域が県指定史跡になっている。寺にあまり興味が無い人には退屈かもだが、見応えは抜群。

    A museum dedicated to presenting materials relating to Namahage, traditional ogres which are part of the folk customs of Oga, located a 20 minute drive by car from JR Hadachi Station. The museum building is built with “Kanpu-seki” stone from Oga outside and Akita cedar inside, and various rare and precious materials relating to the folklore of Namahage are presented in the museum’s atmospheric confines. Highlights include the museum’s display of 110 Namahage costumes and 40 Namahage masks actually used in areas throughout the city. The rows of diverse costumes and masks standing together is truly an impressive sight. Visitors can also put on a real Namahage costume themselves and take a commemorative photo.

It offers a sweeping view of the Oga Peninsula, the Sea of Japan, and Mizushima Island off the coast. There is also room with exhibits about the lighthouse and a monument to that shows the location of the 40th parallel north.

    This gentle 355 meter tall composite volcano is famed for its scenery. It has a number of sights, like Oni no Kakuresato, a rock hill said to be home to Namahage; a spring water area known for its purity, and waterfall headwaters. The peak has an observation facility and the fourth floor rotating observatory offers a panoramic view taking in the Oga Peninsula’s beaches, Mt. Chokai, the Shirakami-Sanchi, and Ogata village. The mountain is girded with Chinese silver grass from the middle section to the peak, and in in Autumn the grass glitters silver-white in the sun for a mystical spectacle.
