This observation deck overlooks Akaiwa, which seems to tower, rising up from the sea. The area around the observation deck is a breeding ground for Rhinoceros auklets and black-tailed gulls, and visitors who come between May and July have a chance to see flocks of Rhinoceros auklets up close.

    Hokkaido Mashikegunmashikechou Ofuyu 795-1
This observation tower stands at 135 meters above sea level and overlooks the Sea of ??Japan in Mashike-cho, Mashike County, Hokkaido. Due to its environment and poor transportation access, it used to be called The Lonely Island on Shore. It became a tourist attraction when the observation tower was built along with Ofuyumisaki Ganseki Park where it stands. Ganseki Park's scenery is unique to Ofuyu. On sunny days you can see from the Shakotan Peninsula to Teuri Island and Yagishiri Island. The view is especially superb at sunset. The platform is only open from late April to mid-October. It is closed in winter. Hours of operation vary according to the season.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
