    Hokkaido Wakkanaishi Minato 1-6-28
    Wakkanai Fukuko Market started in 2007 and is the northernmost commercial complex in Japan. Located 20 minutes by car from Wakkanai Airport, there are souvenir shops, onsens and restaurants including the outdoor “Yatai” stall village called “Hatoba-Yokocho where you can eat gourmet foods from a wide range of genres ranging from ramen and yakitori to Russian food. You can also enjoy the Wakkanai Hot Spring “Minato no Yu”, an open-air hot spring on the second floor, and watch the ships on the busy ocean.

    Founded in 1958, the Tanaka Seika is a fresh vegetable, fruit and pickles wholesale store located in Sakae-machi, Rumoi City. The seasonal vegetables grown on the fertile plains of Hokkaido, where temperatures drastically fluctuate every day and night, the Tanaka Seika makes hallmark Hokkaido tsukemono pickled items without any additives. Their shelves are lined with distinctive pickles such as koji-yeast marinated daikon, cabbage, and gutted herring, the fisherman's Yanshu Nishin pickled herring, as well as the seafood daikon pickles or the hakusai cabbage soy sauce pickles expressing the local flavor. Winner of the Kitano High Grade Shokuhin 2014 Award, for the colorful and visually pleasant pickles, which is a creation of their vegetable sommelier, is very popular.

    This souvenir shop is in the Kitakara facility connected to JR Wakkanai Station. It offers Hokkaido specialty sweets, general goods, and local products especially for tourists. There is also an attached dining area with cafes and diners for a quick bite to eat and a break from shopping.

    JR稚内駅に併設された複合施設であるキタカラにあるお土産屋さんです。空港バスもここから出ますし、レンタカーを空港で借りる方以外には買い物するのに便利な場所です。品揃えも食品中心ですが、悪くなかったです。

The most popular thing for people to buy is the certificate declaring you’ve made it to the northernmost part of Japan. You can get the date and time of your arrival printed on the certificate. What is more, in the adjacent ice hall you can get to touch a real iceberg, which is not something you get to do every day!

    This is a long-established confectionery shop in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido, the northernmost tip of Japan and sells a variety of items ranging from souvenirs to daily snacks. The most popular western-style cake is the “Drift Ice Manju” which is a moist sponge cake covered with white chocolate and portrays the image of drift ice. In addition, bittersweet “Mocha Shofuku” and milky “Wakkanai Condensed Milk Sweets” are also popular. Local produce from Hokkaido, and especially milk produced only in the neighboring area is used. The careful selection of ingredients to make the sweets is the secret of their popularity.

The shop's kamaboko accordingly has the kind of plump texture you can only achieve using this old fashioned method. The shop deep fries your selections after ordering, ensuring you can enjoy piping-hot kamaboko treats right on the spot. The shop also sells its wares for takeout, perfect for taking back as a souvenir.

    「留萌観光案内所」の標識が立っていましたが、建物にはちゃんと「お勝手屋萌」と掲げられており、タクシー運転手にも観光案内所と云うより「お勝手屋萌」の方が通じるようでした。正に土産物店で各種の菓子類も並んでおりついつい購入してしまいました。猶、店内奥には「開運KAZUMOちゃん」と不思議なキャラクターが鎮座していました。
