In the time of the early Showa, business leaders, conglomerates and the great merchants known as Japanese shipping kings established a gorgeous mansion atop the hill behind the plaza. Some of the buildings that have deteriorated with the passing of time and household items have been collected and restored to display the lifestyles of the people of the time."

Situated midway between Asakusa Bridge, known for its scenic view of Otaru Canal; and Kitaichi Glass, here customers can enjoy seasonal seafood delivered straight from the port. The first Donburi-Chaya restaurant was opened over 20 years ago in Nijo Market, known as the ""kitchen of Sapporo."" Harnessing its location close to a fishing port, customers rave that the restaurant serves the freshest Pacific herring, flounder, sea urchin, sailfin poacher, and other seafood delicacies. Particularly popular is the restaurant's luxurious Marusen-don, which consists of several smaller rice bowls, including the salmon and roe ""oyakodon"" rice bowl; a raw sea urchin and scallop rice bowl; the Tokusen Kani-don topped with snow crab claw meat; and a botan shrimp and tuna rice bowl. Diners who choose this extravagant meal can fully experience all the seafood delights Hokkaido has to offer in a single sitting."

I loved eating here. The food was delicious and we were also able to pray upstairs. The prices are absolutely reasonable and its in the midst of all the attractions.

This soba restaurant has a prominent appearance that one would not usually imagine to be a restaurant. It is located three minutes' walk from Minami-Otaru Station. Customers can enjoy authentic handmade soba noodles in the early Showa period atmosphere of the restaurant. The restaurant has a choice of two types of noodle, according to the customer's preference and their choice of menu, Inaka Soba, which is the epitome of authentic soba noodles, and Sarashina Soba, which has an elegant flavor. Both types of noodle offer a wonderful experience with the scent of fresh buckwheat. The building itself was constructed in the early Showa period, and has a strong historical feel to it. Even after more than 60 years since its construction, the structure's interior and exterior are still in excellent condition. And customers can really feel the spirit of Otaru, which cherishes the high level of construction technology and its historical buildings of the time.

    平日の午後、昼時を過ぎていたので店内は空いていました。一品料理を四品頼み、ラストオーダーまでビールを飲みました。レンコンの料理が美味しかったです。

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
