This roadside station is at the intersection of National Routes 241 and 242, in Ashoro Town, Ashoro County, Hokkaido. It incorporates the Ashoro Station building from the Furusato Ginga line, closed since 2006. Inside, there is the Furusato Ginga Line Information display area, and on the second floor is the Ginga Hall, used for concerts and more. The hall is famous for its Chiharu Matsuyama Area displaying information about the Ashoro-native singer.

At Sahoro Bear Mountain the largest species of Hokkaido brown bear can be observed in an environment close to their natural habitat. You can get up close with the bears moving about in the forest from behind the safety of the reinforced windows on the bear watching bus and you can watch the bears go about their day from the relaxed setting of the high-rise walkway. You can also get to touch the bears through the glass of the special viewing area located in the middle of Bear Mountain; a truly memorable experience!

A ski resort located in Shintoku Town Kamikawa County Hokkaido. Here you can enjoy skiing amidst a beautiful landscape while enjoying the scenery of the Tokachi Plain area. The resort is characterized by its low water content down snow which differs from the snow of areas with heavier snowfalls. In January and February skiers can catch sight of diamond dust and sun pillar (light pillar) phenomena. The resort's courses range from beginner to advanced and equipment can be rented at the rental shop.

Awesome snow. Can be randomly busy with school groups but really not a crowded ski resort, far from it. Trails are well groomed, lift queues are mostly non-existent. Three times visiting here, always...

The large grounds cover parts of Otofuke, Ikeda, and Makubetsu and include a water playground, playfields, a large trampoline Bouncy Dome, and plenty of other natural play areas. Camp grounds are also available, as are bicycle rentals, making this the perfect place to spend your free time.

Hokkaido Kato-gun Kamishihorocho Nukabira Gensen Go

This cultural facility exhibits materials related to the former National Railway Shihoro line, which was decommissioned in 1987. The museum is located in the remains of the former Nukabira Station, and displays rails and trains actually used on the line. Inside the building, you can watch a film taken from the driver's seat back when the line was in use, showing the run from Obihiro Station to Nukabira Station. There are exhibits of rail maps, explanations of the history of the Shihoro line, pictures of construction, and track maintenance tools as well, all recreating that time in Shihoro's history. The authentic enamel station name signs and nostalgic timetables are hugely popular with rail fans.

旧国鉄士幌線の資料館で入館料は１００円と安いです。もともと糠平駅だった場所を資料館として活用しているようです。廃線跡の線路上を歩いたりと貴重な体験ができました。タウシュベツ川橋梁とセットで訪れると見識も増すと思います。

Situated along National Route 241 in Konan, Ashoro Town, Ashoro County, Hokkaido Prefecture. This museum collects and studies paleontological materials with a focus on the fossils of marine mammals excavated in Ashoro. Exploring the plant and animal life of Ashoro as well as tracing the history of the planet, exhibits include the skeletons of a variety of whales as well as examples of the extinct, mysterious Desmostylus. The museum also offers curator guided tours and activities like a miniature dig and replica making.

勉強になったのは、復元の際に解釈差がある事。たしか、3パターンある例が展示されていました。一番気になったのは、指の本数…。方や指4本、方や指5本とか。えっ？そんなにブレるの？正解は、誰にも分からないけど復元は、正解ではない事。たしかに、恐竜なんて誰も見た事ないよね。

"This art museum is about a 30-minute drive from the Tokachi-Shimizu Interchange off the Doto Expressway. It was founded to honor the work of Nissho Kanda, who described himself as ""Farmer, and artist,"" and to serve as a base and promoter of Shikaoi's artistic culture. Nissho's work itself is marked by his use of painting knives to paint on plywood. Exhibits include many pieces that pursue a sense presence of the subjects, or that create the impression of following the observer. The museum also offers materials for those wishing to study Kanda's work, and they allow drawing and observation of representative works like his ""Indoor Landscape"" and the unfinished piece ""Horse""."

２月の正午頃に然別湖コタンで氷のバーや教会を見学した後に、然別湖ネイチャーセンターの２階でランチを頂きました。カレーやクラムチャウダーが美味しかったです。店員さん達も丁寧でした。然別湖畔ではランチはこちらで頂くことをお勧めします。
Lake Shikaribetsu

Lake Shikaribetsu is the only natural lake in Daisetsuzan National Park. The lake is 810 meters above sea level, the highest point in Hokkaido, with a depth of approximately 100 meters at its deepest point. Virgin forest filled with trees such as the Todo Matsu (Abies sachalinensis, a species of conifer) and the Jezo spruce surround the lake in an area where nature has remained unchanged for hundreds and thousands of years. Valuable wildlife such as the Pika (a small, rabbit like mammal) inhabit the forest where, accompanied by experienced nature guides, you can be taken on walks through the pristine forest.

The Tokachi Wine research and manufacturing facility has been nicknamed the “Ikeda Wine Castle” because of its resemblance to a medieval European castle. Visitors can look round the exhibition rooms, which have displays on the grape cultivation and wine-making techniques used to produce Tokachi wines, and can also visit the wine maturation cellars where vintage wines are aged. The wine tasting area, restaurant, and shopping area selling wines and other local specialties are all very popular with visitors.

Naitai Kogen Farm

The largest communal farm in Japan. The total area of the farm is some 1,700 hectares, the equivalent of 358 Tokyo Domes. Naitai Kogen Farm primarily raises milk cows. A dairy breeding farm, Naitai Kogen Farm looks after other owner's milk cows, artificially inseminating them and returning them just prior to calving. Deer and other wild animals also sometimes appear on the spacious grounds. There's a mountain on the farm with an observatory at the top offering a sweeping view of the area. The farm also has a rest house serving soft serve ice cream and Japanese wagyu beef hamburgers.

This is a lake of 2.5 kilometers in circumference surrounded by deep natural forest in the west mountain foothills of Mt. Meakan. The color slightly changes due to the season, weather, and angle of the light, and displays a variety of expressions such as cobalt blue and emerald green. It is also known as “Goshikinuma” (five color marsh) and is a mysterious lake that you never tire of looking at.

An observatory built on the shore of Lake Nukabira. The observatory offers a sweeping view of the Taushubetsu River Bridge and the natural beauty of the lake. The Taushubetsu River Bridge is a concrete arch bridge which was built for the former Japan National Railways Shihoro Line. The line was closed with the building of the nearby dam, which formed Lake Nukabira, enveloping the bridge. Accordingly, today, the bridge is only visible in winter when water levels are low, leading it to be called a phantom bridge. There are parking spaces along the nearby National Route and a walking path leads to the observatory, making it easy to stop by and enjoy the view while on a drive.
