    Sapporo Dome is located in the southeast of the city and is Sapporo’s largest all-weather indoor dome. It is widely used as a transmission point for sports and entertainment, holding global sporting competitions and large-scale concerts with more than 50,000 people.     Shiroi Koibito Park is a theme park where you can tour the production plant for Shiroi Koibito, a well-known confectionary that is symbolic of Sapporo (an entry fee is charged). There are also hands on activities such as a course in drawing pictures on the Shiroi Koibito, which can be enjoyed by children and adults. The Shiroi Koibito Park is packed full of areas where you can experience things first hand such as a lounge where you can enjoy the sweets in a space surrounded by English antiques as well as a candy lab where you can watch demonstrations by candy craftsmen. There is also a beautiful rose garden which presents different aspects in summer and winter.

    Sapporo Beer Garden is a complex of restaurants located to the east of Sapporo Station. Among them, Kessel Hall has an enormous beer brewing cauldron (kessel) made in 1912, and you can enjoy draught beer directly from the brewery and “Genghis Khan” cuisine in a large space like a beer hall. In the Garden Grill, there is a fully private room complete with an exclusive terrace where you can relax and enjoy the private space.

It's also a great place to enjoy the fresh green of spring and autumn leaves. Many visitors come for walks on the walking paths along the valley.

    Hokkaido University, which first opened as Sapporo Agriculture College in 1876. After that, it has made a great contribution not only to agriculture, but also to the development of Hokkaido. The words Professor Clark left for his students on his departure from Sapporo “Boys be ambitious!” remain as the university’s motto today. The university grounds are enormous, the Sapporo campus being approximately 1.77 million square meters, which is the size of 38 Tokyo Dome baseball stadiums. Walking around the nature-filled campus with its avenues lined with poplars and elm forests is an enjoyable experience.

From the peak, you can look out over Sapporo and Ishikari Bay on the Sea of Japan, making it a popular night time viewing spot.

    Moerenuma Park is a comprehensive park in northeast Sapporo for which globally renowned sculptor Isamu Noguchi created the basic design. Based on the concept of “the whole being a single sculpture,” it was recommended to build on a site where 2.7 million tons of waste had been put in landfill, and the park opened in 2005. Hills with geometric forms, fountains, and play equipment have been arranged in a vast site equivalent to 40 Tokyo Domes, allowing a landscape that fuses art and nature to be enjoyed. Another attraction is that seasonal pastimes can be enjoyed with cherry blossoms in the spring, water activities in the summer, autumn leaves in the fall, and cross country skiing in the winter.

    Sapporo Beer Museum, located to the east of Sapporo Station, is the only museum in Japan where you can learn about the history of Japanese beer. Admission to the museum is free, but the paid tour (about 50 minutes) is recommended if you have the time. You can learn about the history of Sapporo Beer with the powerful 6K wide-screen theater and easy-to-understand guide. Also you can only sample the “Fukkokuban Sapporo-sei Bakushu” (Reproduced Sapporo Beer) that recreates the flavor at the time of Sapporo Beer's establishment as well as the iconic Black Label Sapporo Beer on the paid tour.     Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill is one of Hokkaido's best tourist attractions. Sheep are kept on the rolling hills where the lush greenery dazzles the eyes, and the heart is warmed by the idyllic countryside scenery. A statue of Dr. William Smith Clark who served as the first vice-principal at Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University) can be seen on the observation deck. It’s a popular place to come and have your photograph taken. At the Hitsujigaoka Rest House you can have some Mongolian-style mutton barbecue food.

    Sapporo Teine is the largest leisure facility in the suburbs of Sapporo. About 40 minutes from Sapporo City center, it enjoys good access, being a mere seven minutes from the Teine Interchange on the Sapporo Expressway. The Highland Zone with an elevation of 1,023 meters is a ski resort which was also used as a competition venue at the Sapporo Olympics held in 1972. There are plenty of ski slope attractions including the Terrain Park with its dynamic atmosphere and the Kyoryu Kids Park, where powerful dinosaurs can be played with. There is also free all-day parking that can accommodate 3,000 cars.

It is located at the north exit of the west concourse on the first floor of JR Sapporo Station, and is the first facility in Japan to contain the three entities of the prefecture, municipality and JR. There is also a corner with pamphlets from all around Hokkaido and a cafe that publicizes and sells safe and sound Hokkaido foods where it is easy to savor light refreshments using local specialties.

    The Historical Village of Hokkaido is an outdoor museum which reproduces the frontier days of Hokkaido where you can learn about frontier history. There are four separate areas which are the Farm Village, the Sea Village, the Mountain Village and the City and you can walk through each village to experience the different atmospheres. At the Frontier Village Restaurant in the museum, you can eat the simple but delicious “Imo Mochi” and the restaurant’s original Tondenhei (Settlers’) Set Meal.

    Approximately a five-minute walk from Kitajunijo Station on the subway Namboku Line, this popular site for yellow leaves is located on Kita-Jusanjo Street inside Hokkaido University. There are 70 ginkgo trees that line both ends of the street that stretches for around 380 meters from east to west, and they are dyed a brilliant yellow from late October to the beginning of November. Because many tourists visit during this time, there are times when the street is closed to vehicular traffic to ensure safety. The Hokkaido University Golden-leaf Festival is held on the last weekend of October, and besides stalls, the street is illuminated from six to nine in the evening.

    Takino Suzuran Hillside Park is the only state-owned park in Hokkaido, with a size of about 400 hectares. The park is divided into four zones. In the central zone you can enjoy the beautiful country garden where flowers bloom throughout the seasons; in the mountain stream zone relax by the waterfalls and rivers; and in the Takino forest zones (east and west) you can take long forest walks and make use of the play equipment. Ashiribetsu Waterfall was chosen as one of the 100 must-see waterfalls in Japan. In winter it’s also possible to have a go at some tube sledding.

Events are sometimes held in the Terminus Plaza on the basement first floor making it not only a great place to kick back but also a place where you can have some fun!

Built so that the cafe protrudes from the cliff, the beauty of the valley with the Shirai River flowing directly below can be enjoyed from the seats at the back of the cafe. About 10 seats can be squeezed on to the cozy terrace which is only open during the summer months. Take some time out and enjoy the cafe menu, including aromatic siphon (vacuum pot) coffee, and gake no ue cake made with sour cream butter, all while taking in the beautiful natural green surroundings.

In addition to the richly flavored parfait which uses plenty of refreshing soft ice cream and the light, fluffy baked pancakes, there are a wide variety of dishes on the menu which normally use milk products such as carbonara and gratin, etc. The Yotsuba white parfait made with plenty of soft ice cream and fresh cream is especially popular. They also have a recommended seasonal menu and the place is always crowded with both local customers and tourists.

Their most popular dishes on the menu are the Treasure Ship, a deluxe assortment of 6 kinds of fresh fish, and the Salmon Roe Rice Bowl with copious amounts of roe loaded on top of the rice.
