"A 10-minute drive or three kilometers from the Saito Interchange on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway. Dedicated to the princess goddess Konohanasakuya-hime-no-Mikoto, the shrine's name appears in ancient ""Shoku Nihon Koki"" Japanese history text, as well as in the register of shrines in the ancient ""Engishiki"" law book. According to legend, Ninigi-no-Mikoto fell in love with the princess at first site and held a wedding ceremony, thus becoming known as a god of love and marriage, while the princess safely gave birth to triplets and in turn became known as a goddess of safe childbirth and childrearing. During the Koisai Festival held on July 7th, the wedding ceremony is recreated in an unusual ritual which has been conducted continuously for around five hundred years."

This winery is located in Tsuno Town, Koyu County. The wine is made from 100 per cent locally grown grapes. The winery offers inspections of the wine making process, wine tasting, and a produce shop. In addition, various events such as a farm produce harvesting experience, live jazz concerts, and barbecue lunches are held.

Other places use paper cups for tastings during the coronavirus era but this winery simply did away with tastings. It made our special trip to the winery a big disappointment. We came planning to buy...

A small peninsula on which Japanese horses, also known as Misaki horses, graze. The horses leisurely feed on the peninsula’s grasses against a backdrop of gently rolling green hills and the blue sea, creating a beautiful and tranquil scene. The lighthouse standing on the tip of the peninsula is the southernmost lighthouse in Miyazaki Prefecture. The only lighthouse which can be entered and viewed by tourists in Kyushu, it also serves as viewing platform from which visitors can get a sweeping view of the surrounding gentle ocean.

This ranch is at the foot of Mt. Kirishima, a little east of Takachiho Farm. It lets you view goats, rabbits, and lots of free range chickens. The animals' feed is a blend of dozens of naturally derived, chemical and antibiotic-free items and they drink local spring water. The ranch's restaurant has an array of fresh egg dishes on the menu, including omelette and Japanese omelette rice. Their eggs prepared sunny-side up or boiled let you taste how great eggs can be. This long-standing Western restaurant opened in 1956, in Miyazaki City, Miyazaki Prefecture. It is one of the restaurants said to have devised the Miyazaki’s specialty Chicken Nanban. The restaurant prides itself on its Chicken Nanban, made with tender chicken breast meat, cooked and immediately covered in sweet vinegar and a homemade tartar sauce. Locals and tourists alike line up to buy it. The old-fashioned interior, styled like a Western town restaurant, is also quite appealing.

"This swimming beach is located a 30-minute drive south of Horikiri Pass. A continuous stretch of white sands and white rest houses, the coast has even been selected for inclusion in the Selection of Best 100 Beach list. The beach is also situated close to such tourism destinations as Udo Jingu Shrine and Sunmesse Nichinan, and features such as fan palms growing along its length engender a south seas atmosphere. As the beach's waves are gentle, it's a great place for families with small children to play. Additionally, there's a ""seaborne marine pool"" created by square floats joined together on the surface of the ocean off the beach."

The Manai Waterfalls are a symbol of Takachiho Gorge and have been chosen as one of Japan’s top 100 waterfalls. The highlight is the sight of the white sheets of spray rising and falling gently as they flow down from pillar joints of the cliff. After renting a boat and going near to the falls for a closer look, they become even more impressive. In the summer there is a limited time illumination, where one can enjoy some magnificent scenery.

This riverbed is about a 10-minute walk up along the Iwato River from Amanoiwato-jinja Shrine. It is said that when Amaterasu Omikami, the Sun Goddess, shut herself inside this cave behind a rock door, eight million gods gathered here and held a ceremony. If you stack rocks and make a wish, it will supposedly come true—which is why countless piles of rocks can be seen in the area, creating a mysterious sight indeed.
