Yamaguchi Pref. Shimonosekishi Yoshida Town 1184
"This is a historic building in Shimonoseki City, which was founded in 1844 as a place of worship for Shinsaku Takasugi who played a part in the Meiji Restoration. The ""White-robed Kannon Bodhisattva"" is revered as the main idol of worship and it is a branch temple of Kozanji Temple of the Soto sect of Buddhism. In addition to the honorable monuments and the monument for the poetry of Takasugi, visitors can also enjoy the blossoming sal trees, symbolic of the sacred ground, as well other flowering trees in each season."

    小ぶりな丘に草木が植えられ、ちょっとした散策に向いています。こじんまりした地味な場所なので高杉晋作を顕彰するような場所をイメージしていると少し違うかもしれません。

    Yamaguchi Pref. Shimonosekishi Choufusoushamachi 4-10
This is a residence built in 1903 by Mori Mototoshi, who was the 14th generation head of the Mori family. Some rooms have been left as they were at that time as a result of also being used as lodgings for Emperor Meiji. You can command a view of three types of garden from the stately main wing of this house which is an example of a samurai residence structure: the three types of garden are the “Chisen Kaiyushiki” (strolling pond) garden, the “Shoin” (lit. drawing room) garden and a traditional Japanese dry landscape garden. This place is also well known as a famous spot for viewing of autumn leaves.

Heading west along Japan’s largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you’ll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we’re not talking just the usual fish dishes - the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
