Karato Yokan Meguri

Historical Monument
In Shimonoseki City, many Western-style buildings constructed between the Meiji and Taisho periods have been preserved. The area around the Karato intersection in the Karato district where National Route 9 and Prefectural Route 57 intersect in particular has a high concentration of valuable Western-style architecture; this includes the Former Akita Shokai Building, the Shimonoseki Nabecho Post Office, and the Former Shimonoseki British Consulate, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property.
