    Suzunoya is a memorial museum devoted to the great Edo period scholar Motoori Norinaga. It displays handwritten manuscripts, personal items, self-portraits, and other mementos. Motoori was a physician back in the Edo period, as well as a student of Japanese history and a philologist. He is famous for having researched the eighth-century mythological and historical compilation Kojiki and writing a commentary on it, which is known as Kojikiden. He also studied the eleventh-century The Tale of Genji intently and coined the term mono-no-aware, a melancholy awareness of the transience of life. Even the house where Motoori Norinaga lived has been moved and rebuilt inside the memorial museum. This house was called Suzunoya (Bell House), due to the fact that he hung bells in an alcove of his study on the second floor and enjoyed listening to them. Visitors can hear detailed explanations of the exhibits from the guides who are on duty during the day.

    Located a 20-minute drive from the Matsusaka Interchange, this park is centered on the large ancient tombs that remain in Takarazuka. Tomb No. 1 is a keyhole shaped tomb that is square at the front and rounded in the rear, and tomb No. 2 is an early keyhole-shaped tomb mound that is scallop shaped, and they were both created more than 1,600 years ago. Tomb No. 1 is especially famous for the rare large clay boat haniwa (terracotta tomb figurine) that was unearthed there, and many of the excavated items have been designated nationally Important Cultural Properties. Inside the park, the shape of the tombs and their original state is maintained in an easy-to-understand way, and it is decorated with many restored haniwa. In addition, you can also enjoy the Matsusaka Castle ruins and large panorama nearby from tomb No. 1.

    This eight hectare herb garden is located inside the facilities of the Menard Aoyama Resort. Utilizing the climate of Takayama Kogen at an altitude of 600 meters that is cool throughout the year, more than 300 types of herbs such as lavender and chamomile are cultivated here. It is open from the end of April until the end of November. You can walk along a promenade within the forest on the facility, allowing you to enjoy forest bathing and its healing effects. In addition, they offer herb tea and dishes such as herb pasta at the cafe in the garden. There is also a shop that sells herb-related goods, so you can fully enjoy herbs to your heart's content.

    A park developed from the ruins of Matsusaka Castle built by Gamo Ujisato in Tono-machi, Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture. The proudly towering stone wall has become a symbol of Matsusaka. The park includes the Motoori Norinaga Memorial Museum, Suzuya (former residence of Motoori Norinaga), and the Museum of History and Folklore. Cherry blossoms, wisteria, and gingko trees adorn the stone walls, making the park a place for citizens to relax throughout the four seasons. During the cherry blossom season, the area is illuminated offering visitors enjoyable cherry blossoms viewing at night.

    Mie Matsusaka-shi Higashikurobecho Tenjin 1
    This strawberry picking farm is located on the grounds of JA Matsusaka Kissuru Kurobe in Higashikurobe-cho, Matsusaka City. Open from early January through mid-May, here you can have fun picking strawberries in a greenhouse which incorporates universal design principles. Note that strawberry picking is reservation-only. The farm also sells strawberry gift packs and is adjoined by a farmers' market and dining hall.

    This gorge is located in Iitaka-cho, Matsusaka City.     "This Shinto shrine stands on National Route 166 in Ako, Iitaka-cho, Matsusaka City. The shrine was established over 1,000 years ago by the Kasugataisha shrine in Nara as temporary imperial lodgings. The shrine is deeply connected to water; for example, in a ceremony called the ""O-mizu-okuri,"" sacred water from the Akaoke well west of the shrine is offered to the gods. A huge sacred camphor tree on the shrine's grounds is estimated to be over a millennium old and has been designated a Natural Monument by the prefecture."

In the center's rest area and local specialty products hall, you can enjoy cuisine made with Matsusaka's famous mulukhiya, edible wild plants, heritage chicken, and other local specialty products.

    This Buddhist temple is located in Kozaka, Taki Town, Taki County, Mie Prefecture. The temple's principal object of worship is a 92-centimeter-tall statue depicting a seated Samantabhadra made from a single piece of wood which records state was created in the Heian period and which today has been designated a National Important Cultural Property. Other Buddhist figures enshrined in the temple include an 11-faced standing Kannon statue believed to have been sculpted in the Muromachi period, and a gilt round plaque depicting an 11-faced thousand-armed Kannon cast in the Kamakura period. Prospective visitors who wish to view these sculptures are recommended to contact the temple in advance.

    The area in Isshinden-cho, Tsu City known as Isshinden Jinaicho grew as a commune around the Takada Honzan Senjuji Temple. There's also the Isshinden Jinaicho Festival, which is held in November.

    This tourist information center is located on the first floor of the Ust Tsu mall in front of Tsu Station in Hadokoro-cho, Tsu City. The center distributes information pamphlets and provides other sightseeing information concerning the city. The center also sells Tsu City products, merchandise featuring local mascot characters, and elaborate Tsu Castle Ruins stamp cards.

    This site of a ruined castle is located in Ueno, Kawage-cho, Tsu City. The castle was renovated in 1570 by Oda Nobukane, younger brother of the powerful samurai lord Oda Nobunaga. After the downfall of the Azai clan, who opposed Nobunaga, Oichi, Nobunaga's younger sister, moved in with her three daughters. Today, the site of the castle is maintained as Honjoyama Youth Park, and from an observatory situated where the original castle tower stood, visitors can get a sweeping view of Ise Bay and the Suzuka Mountains.

    This tourist fruit farm is located in Takajayakomori-cho, Tsu City. Dedicated to the use of organic fertilizer and reduced agricultural chemicals, the farm cultivates grapes, Japanese pears, and other fruits. From August through October, the farm is open to visitors, and during this time you can have fun picking large and medium sized grapes, and Japanese pears when in season. No reservation is required unless you are a large tour group.

    This historic site is situated on Prefectural Route 657 in Ubushina, Tsu City. The site is said to be the birthplace of Taira no Tadamori, father of military leader Taira no Kiyomori, who laid the foundations for the prosperity of the Taira clan. There is a mound where Tadamori's placenta is buried, and a pond where he is said to have received his first bath as a baby. As the veritable birthplace of the famous Ise Taira clan, the place has also been designated a Historic Site by the prefecture.

    This tourist mandarin orange orchard is located in Ozatokubota-cho, Tsu City. The orchard is open to visitors each year from late October through the end of November. The orchard offers a two-hour all-you-can-eat mandarin orange picking course which includes a souvenir, and here you can have fun picking and eating delicious mandarin oranges raised strong and healthy in the area's warm climate.
  • Hikawa Stone Buddhist Statues

    "This group of stone Buddhist statues is located in Tarou, Misugi-cho, Tsu City. Statues include a seated Amitabha, Bhaisajyaguru, and Kshitigarbha, and it is believed they were created from between the end of the Kamakura period and the early Muromachi period. All are made of a variety of welded tuff known as ""Obara stone."" There are also two gorinto five-part gravestones at the site, and according to local legend, one is the grave of Taira no Takakiyo, son of Taira clan commander Taira no Koremori, who escaped to this area after the fall of the Taira clan."

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
