The waters of this hot spring district, which was designated an official recuperative by Morioka Domain in the Edo period, have been naturally welling forth from the ground along the O-yugawa River for some 800 years. This district, the closest to Lake Towada in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, is still beloved by many today. The district encompasses six hot spring lodging facilities and four public bathhouses. The waters of the area's salt springs are said to treat such ailments as nerve pain, muscle soreness, joint pain, and frozen shoulders, and are also gentle on the skin and prevent post-bath chills. In addition to Lake Towada, a deep lake up to 334 meters deep, the Kazuno area is home to countless traditional events and folk arts passed down through the centuries, and visitors can enjoy both natural beauty and history alongside soothing hot spring bathing. Kazuno is also the location of the Oyu Stone Circles, an ancient archeological site dating back to the late Jomon period.

Akita Areas

around-area-map

Famed for its sake and samurai, Akita prefecture offers quintessential Japanese culture in a non-touristy setting. Alongside the celebrated rice paddies and historical sites of the region lies dramatic natural scenery in the form of the rugged coastline of the Oga Peninsula and the Dakigaeri Gorge, best visited in autumn, when the leaves begin to change color.
