    Akita Senboku-shi
"A famous spring situated along National Route 341 in Numata, Tazawa, Tazawako, Senboku City. The spring's name, which literally translates to ""Tea-Making Spring,"" is derived from the fact that the lords of Akita Domain would use its waters to make delicious tea. Even today, many people come here to draw and drink its waters, and there's even an unmanned shop where visitors can purchase a PET bottle to take some spring water home with them. There's also a farmers marker opposite the spring on the other side of the road."

"This spring was selected for inclusion in the Ministry of the Environment's Top 100 Famous Water list in 1985 as well as the Ministry of Construction's list of the country's top 30 handmade local attractions in 1990. The waters of the spring were famously used to make the meals of the wealthy Satakeminami merchant family from 1620 to 1892. Drinking the waters is said to give one strength, and so a stone monument was erected at the spring with characters meaning ""Power Water."""

Akita Areas

around-area-map

Famed for its sake and samurai, Akita prefecture offers quintessential Japanese culture in a non-touristy setting. Alongside the celebrated rice paddies and historical sites of the region lies dramatic natural scenery in the form of the rugged coastline of the Oga Peninsula and the Dakigaeri Gorge, best visited in autumn, when the leaves begin to change color.
