The “Sabuichi Yusui” spring at the foot of Yatsugatake has been chosen as one of Japan’s top 100 springs. Legend has it that back when disputes over water rights were fierce, Sengoku feudal lord Takeda Shingen built a triangular stone pillar over the mouth of the spring so that three villages could split the water evenly.

The waters of this spring well up on the grounds of Otaki Shrine in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture. Pouring from a trough carved from a log, the waters of the spring are pure and clear and were selected for inclusion in the Japanese Top 100 Famous Water list in 1985 as part of the springs of the plateau at the southern foot of Yatsugatake. Visitors may draw and drink the spring's waters. Around 12° C, the abundant waters of the spring have supported the lives of local residents since ancient times, and even today they are used to irrigate rice paddies and raise rainbow trout. The surrounding area is maintained as a park, and in the spring visitors can enjoy the area's fresh verdure, while in the fall visitors can take in beautiful autumn foliage.

"The name of this spring literally translates to ""Life Extending Water,"" and as this implies, according to legend drinking its waters would give long life. One legend says that the forces of the mighty samurai lord Takeda Shingen stopped here to drink as they made their way to Shinano, restoring their strength. Today, visitors are not permitted to drink the spring's waters due to environmental conservation reasons, but the Kannondaira plain is situated in front of the pond and visitors can take in a sweeping view of the Southern Japan Alps and Mt. Fuji, and many people make their way here to take in the lovely area scenery."
