- Tsurigane Cave is located in the city of Kuji in Iwate Prefecture. Before it was destroyed in the 1896 Sanriku Earthquake, a bell-shaped rock hung from the ceiling of the cave, giving it its name. It is located along the Kosode Coast in Sanriku Fukko National Park, and the now-empty cave is a symbol of the region's recovery. During the summer solstice season in June, visitors can see the rising sun shining directly into the mouth of the cave.
