Visitors to Shikisai-no-oka in the summer can enjoy the beautiful vistas of colorful flower fields, while in the winter they can experience standing in the midst of a vast expanse of snow. Besides the extensive flower gardens, farmers’ fields and Alpaca ranch, Shikisai-no-oka also has a farm guesthouse where visitors can stay. The farm shop sells vegetables grown locally, as well as other products sourced directly from local farmers. Shikisai-no-oka is located 25 minutes’ walk from JR Bibaushi Station.

    Hokkaido Kamikawagumbieichou Shirogane
Depending on the time of year and the angle that you view it from, the water of Shirogane Blue Pond may appear either blue or green. Surrounded by ancient trees (including Japanese Larch), and with the sunlight creating magical effects on the water’s surface, this is a very popular place for taking photos. In winter, the Pond is illuminated, creating an even more mysterious effect. The Pond receives very large numbers of visitors on weekends and during the Golden Week (roughly April 29 to early May) holiday period, so it’s best to allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

A roadside station housed inside a remodeled storehouse built of local soft stone in Biei Town. Inside, the extensive use of Biei Japanese larch wood gives the station a warm, inviting atmosphere. Here you can buy cider modeled after Biei's famous Blue Pond; local specialty products like Biei milk, pork, and flour; and wood and ceramic pieces by local artists. Events such as solo and photo exhibitions featuring artists connected to Biei are periodically held in the station's event space.

didnt see too much here...just a wayside stop and a place where folks sold some natural produce. there was a nice apple crepe shop next to it.

At Daisetsu Mori-no Garden you can enjoy flowers from season to season in the five themed gardens of Mori-no hanazono, and the five areas of Mori-no geihinkan. There are approximately 700 kinds of flowers planted here, and in the Taisetsu-no niwa garden you can enjoy alpine plants seen growing on Mt. Daisetsu and species of plant life native to Hokkaido. The Shikino Sumiko area is divided into zones according to the plant’s flowering period so you can enjoy flowers of every season. The area called Hanano Izumi, or Fountain of Flowers, symbolizes a spring using plants which grow across the ground like water pouring forth from the earth. Shitashimino Niwa, or The Familiar Garden, as the name suggests, is a garden in which you feel as if you can get close to and enjoy the scent of the flowers. The Kamuimintara garden expresses the idea of ‘a garden where the Gods play’ where the true flavor of Hokkaido can be enjoyed.

We decided to visit this garden also known as Daisetsu Mori no Garden before and after our lunch at the Fratello di Mikuni restaurant. While the garden was not super big, it was not small either...

The Hokkaido Ice Pavilion in Kamikawa, Hokkaido, at the foot of Mt. Daisetsuzan, is the world’s first and best place to experience the extreme cold. The temperature inside the ice hall is kept at -20°C which creates a completely 360° world of ice. You can experience the extreme cold of -41°C and the ‘diamond dust’ effect (where the moisture in the air is frozen) and you can also have your photo taken with the sea angel, Clione. The giant icicles, which have been 25 years in the making, are also a must-see.

The place is not big but it offers a different kind of experience. We arrived there just before lunch time and asked if they have food available, but they said no and recommended us to take a short...

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn.
