    "Located approximately one kilometer off the coastal mouth of the Kozagawa River, this island covered with Machilus thunbergii trees of the laurel family. It is said that this island was once a hub for the Kumano Navy that fought in the Genpei battles. In recent years, the Obon season draws beach swimmers and canoeing and kayaking visitors. It is also known as the site for shooting the variety show Ikinari! Ogon Densetsu, where the television character Yoiko lived on this uninhabited island. This island is one of the cultural properties which compose ""Living with whales"", designated as Japan Heritage by Agency of Cultural Affairs."

    "The 800-meter-long ""Kuroshima Venus Road,"" which appears at low tide, connects Kuroshima, the middle islet, and the end islets. The phenomenon, which appears and disappears with the ebb and flow of the tide, can be seen only in limited places. The name is appropriate for Ushimado, which is known as the ""Aegean Sea of Japan,"" and is named after a goddess in Greek mythology. Kuroshima can be reached by boat in about 10 minutes from the Hotel Limani resort hotel near Ushimado Port."

    Mizushima, an uninhabited island floating in Tsuruga Bay near the tip of the Tsuruga Peninsula, is known for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful white beaches. During the summer beach season ferries run from Irogahama and Urasoko to Mizushima and the beaches are packed with bathers.

    This swimming beach is located on an uninhabited island in the Kii Channel. The island can be reached via a ferry which leaves from Hatsushima Fishing Port. The beach is 500-meters-long and its waters are extremely clear. The beach has toilets and showers are available from inns near the fishing port. Also, rare for a beach, barbecuing and camping are allowed on the shore. Equipment rentals are available, meaning you don't even have to bring anything yourself. You can also rent fishing gear and the beach is a place where you can experience and out-of-the-ordinary time surrounded by natural beauty.

    An island off of Cape Natsudomari known for its surf fishing. A bridge connects the island to the tip of Cape Natsudomari which can be crossed even at high tide. In the past, the island was connected to the cape via a sandbar which could be walked across at low tide, but erosion eventually cut off this link. The island's area is around 20 hectares. A lighthouse can be seen after crossing the bridge, and from here visitors can get a sweeping view of the entirety of Mutsu Bay. There is also a beach, campground, and golf course nearby, enabling visitors to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in the area.

""Kamome"" is the Japanese word for seagull, a name given to the island because its shape resembles a seagull spreading its wings.     “Miyajima” is the commonly used name for Itsukushima, a small island located near the westernmost tip of Hiroshima Bay. Situated on the sea some 20 kilometers from the heart of Hiroshima City, the oblong island is around 30 kilometers in circumference. In spite of its small size, a range of 500-meter-high mountains stands on the island, and it is dotted with deep valleys, waterfalls, and other natural points of interest. It is counted as one of the three most beautiful areas in Japan, along with Kyoto’s Amanohashidate and Miyagi’s Matsushima islands. And the island’s Itsukushima Shrine, of course, needs no introduction; the embodiment of ancient Heian period style, it is one of Japan’s most famous Shinto shrines and has been designated a World Heritage site.

    This is a small-uninhabited island about one kilometer west from the Nio Harbor. There is a larger Otsuta Island and a small Kotsuta Island, together called Tsuta Islands. The ferries only run from Nio Harbor to these nearby islands from April through October. In the summer, they are popular island that are full of visitors enjoying the beach and leisure activities. These uninhabited islands do not even have vending machines or, naturally, any form of electrically powered devices. A beach clubhouse is set up during the summer season, and visitors can purchase simple meals and snacks. The ferryboats do not run on a schedule, but rather just whenever a customer needs to be ferried. In order to return back to Shikoku Island, one must call the ferry by phone.

    This outlying island is about 39 kilometers to the northwest of Sakata City. The ferry Tobishima, leaving from Sakata Port, can get you there in about one hour and 15 minutes. The whole island is considered part of Chokai Quasi-national Park, which is filled with natural wonders like the nesting grounds of National Natural Monument black-tailed gulls. The island attracts visitors for such activities as sea swimming, fishing, and bird watching.
  • Yabuchi Island

    Prefectural Route 10 runs through the southeast part of Uruma City down through Henza Island and Miyagi Island all the way out to Ikei Island, and this historical site is located just off to the west of the center of the island. Numerous relics including pit-type dwellings, pottery, and stone axes have been excavated from this National Historic Site. Presently there's a restored pit dwelling that can be viewed and as the largest in the prefecture it draws lots of tourists to the site. Because the gentle terrain of the island made the settlement vulnerable to the salty sea breezes the people of the time devised a method of protecting themselves by planting trees and vegetation around their settlements.

    "This remote island belongs to the Yaeyama Islands southwest of Okinawa Main Island. It is located just east of Iriomote Island, and you can go back and forth between these islands on a water buffalo cart that travels across the long shallow sea. On the island, where there is a rich natural environment with lush subtropical plants, you will find the butterfly park, where you can observe pupa of Japan's largest butterfly ""tree nymph butterfly"" sparkling in gold color, a water buffalo pond where water buffalo rest, a bougainvillea garden, restaurants and shops as well."
