  • Rokko Island

    An artificial island located east of Port island. The Rokko Island Line runs through the center of the island and is used by 35,000 riders a day. The island is rich in greenery and has a hydrophilic park and green belts. At the same time, the island has isolated walking paths and vehicle roads which make getting around a breeze, and a full array of educational facilities, making it a place where everyone from children to senior citizens can enjoy a comfortable life. In addition, there are many tourist-oriented facilities such as a shopping mall, art museums, hotels, and a hot spring inn. The River Mall promenade is lit up every night and special colors are used on days like Ribbon Day. Events are also held on the island every month.
  • Takeshima Island

    An uninhabited island floating in Miura Bay; the entire island was designated a Natural Monument in 1930. Just 1.9 hectares in size, the island is small; 238 varieties of warm climate plants spread across 65 families grow on the island. Takeshima Bridge, 387 meters in length, connects the island to the mainland; couples crossing it are said to be tied together. There are five Shinto shrines on the island, including Yaotomi-jinja Shrine, considered one of seven great Benzaiten shrines in Japan. The shrine is believed to improve fortunes, provide luck in love and marriage, and grant easy childbirth.
  • Omishima Island

    Located in the northernmost part of Ehime prefecture, it is the largest island of the Geiyo Islands. Ooyamazumi-jinja Shrine, the symbol of the island, has been collecting faith as the god of fighting since ancient times, and many weapons designated as National Treasures and Important Cultural Property have been given as offerings. It is also called “The Island of Gods” or “Island of National Treasures”, and it is full of highlights besides Ooyamazumi-jinja Shrine, such as the Omishima Art Museum and Toyo Ito Museum of Architecture.
  • Ikuchi-jima Island

    Ikuchi-jima Island, one of the Geiyo Islands, is an island that boasts the largest production of lemons in Japan, and where cultivation of citrus fruits is prosperous. There are many places of interest such as The Hill of Hope, a garden made of chalk marble, Hirayama Ikuo Museum of Art and Bell Kant Hall, where musicians renowned in Japan and overseas are invited to have concerts. Sightseeing by cycling is also recommended as there are many flat roads.
  • Naoshima Island

    Naoshima has three settlements: Miyanoura, where ferries arrive and depart, Honmura, which was a castle town during the Warring States period, and the fishing port of Tsumuura. Traditional entertainment also flourished as the territory was under the direct control of the Shogunate during the Edo period. The island's renowned all-women bunraku puppet theater is still performed today.
  • Tsunoshima Island

    This is a small island with a circumference of 17.1 kilometers and is located in the Sea of Japan and is part of Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The 1780 meter long Tsunoshima Ohashi Bridge is suspended between Tsunoshima Island and the mainland. Tsunoshima Lighthouse is located at Yumega Cape which is situated in the north-west of the island, and it stands at a height of 29.6 meters. It is possible to climb up to the landing of the spiral staircase. In addition, Yumesakinami Park which is adjacent to Tsunoshima Lighthouse park is a great scenic spot where you can see the evening sun setting in the Sea of Japan.
  • Innoshima Island

    This is the birthplace of Murakami Navy that boasted power in the Seto Inland Sea from the Nanboku-cho period to the civil wars period. Many historical sites remain such as Innoshima Suigun Castle and Konrenji Temple, housing the Navy tomb. On the other hand, it is also known as the island of Go because it is the home of Honinbo Shusaku, a Go player who represents Japan. Materials relating to Honinbo Shusaku and Go are exhibited at the Honinbo Shusaku Go Memorial Hall.
  • Port Island

    This man-made island was built in 1981 and features large residences, commercial facilities, hotels, a convention center, a sports center, educational facilities, and many other urban amenities. You’ll also find the large interior goods store “IKEA Kobe,” a planetarium, the Kobe Science Museum, the Kobe Animal Kingdom, where visitors can interact with flowers, birds, and other wildlife, and a host of other facilities. It’s popular as a shopping and leisure spot on days off. Kobe Airport is on the west side of the island, and it functions as one of the entrances to Kansai. The unmanned “Port Liner” operates from Sannomiya.
  • Mikimoto Pearl Island

    In 1893 Mikimoto Kokichi opened the first pearl raising facility here on Mikimoto Pearl Island and after the island was opened to the public in 1951 it has drawn numerous sightseers. On the island, which is approximately 23,000 square meters in size, you'll find the Mikimoto Pearl Museum with everything about pearls as well as the Mikimoto Kokichi Memorial Hall which will introduce you to the life of Mikimoto Kokichi, the Pearl King. With these and demonstrations of traditional white clad Ama pearl diver techniques you can immerse yourself in the wonder of pearls, making this almost a Pearl Theme Park.
  • Rishiri Island

    "Rishiri Island is a roughly circular island situated off the northwest coast of Hokkaido; the ferry journey from the port of Wakkanai to Oshidomari Port, the gateway to Rishiri, takes around one hour and 40 minutes. Rishiri has an abundance of magnificent scenery, including Mt. Rishiri, which stands tall in the middle of the Island. Also known as ""Rishiri Fuji"" because of its resemblance to Mt. Fuji, Mt. Rishiri is a treasure-house of alpine plants; visitors can enjoy the fields of flowers near the summit, and the spectacular 360-degree panoramic views from the summit itself. When the weather is clear, Mt. Rishiri can be seen reflected upside-down in the golden-blue water of Himenuma Pond, which is located in the foothills of the mountain, surrounded by primary forest. At Senboshimisaki Park on the coast, with its unusually shaped rock formations, visitors can also see wild seals."

  • Chikubushima Island

    An island two kilometers in circumference located in the northern part of Lake Biwa. The island is the location of the Hogon-ji Temple, counted as one of Japan’s “Three Great Benten Shrines” alongside Itsukushima and Enoshima, in addition to being the 30th temple on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. Chikubushima Shrine, a Shinto shrine dedicated to Ichikishima-hime-no-mikoto, also stands on the island. The Hogon-ji’s large karamon gate, said to be the last extant piece of the original Osaka Castle; and Chikubushima Shrine’s main shrine building, transported here from Fushimi-Momoyama Castle, are both designated National Treasures.

Besides natural sites like ""Onino Ashiato (Devil's Footprint)"" with its connection to the legend of Onigashima and Tatsunoshima Island, which can only be visited between March and November, it has a diversity of other popular tourist spots including burial mounds, ruins, and Iki Nanasha (Seven shrines). There are also a number of annual events like the Ikinoshima Island New Year Marathon and Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine's Iki Daidai Kagura. This ancient ritual music and dance has been designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property. "
  • Tokashiki Island
