This roadside station is on National Route 266 in central Oyano-machi. You can buy local seasonal produce and seafood from their specialty shop. The restaurant primarily serves fare made with local ingredients like seafood dishes and fried tonkatsu cutlet meal sets featuring Amakusa Bainiku brand pork.

This company, located in Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture, offers dolphin watching tours year-round off the coast of Amakusa. As you sail through waters that are home to approximately 200 wild Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins, you’ll have many opportunities to come face-to-face with the curious creatures. Spring and summer are child-rearing season, so you may even encounter baby dolphins as well. The tour lasts about an hour, and young children are more than welcome.

So sad to watch these dolphins that were kidnapped from their pod in the wild and now have to suffer living in tiny tanks. Dolphins were meant to be in the wild, not performing for people in order to...

About 65 minute drive from the Amakusa Airport, or one minute walk from the Tenshudou Iriguchi bus stop. This museum houses a collection of valuable and rare objects related to the lives, culture, and faith of the underground Christians in Amakusa history. In addition to Maria kannon statuettes, the holy water urn used during funeral services, the ‘sutra-erasing urn’, which is a prefectural Important Cultural Property, on display, through videos, the history, nature, and underground Christians’ lives are introduced. The erstwhile mass is even a reenacted. This is experienced accompanied by ‘oratio’ sounds of prayer in a full scale diorama of a ‘hidden room’ especially built for secret worship services.

    市内に幾つかある天草の隠れキリシタン関連の施設の中で、関連資料が一番整理されて纏まっていると思います。 来館したらまずは15分の映像を見てから館内を見て回ると良いでしょう。

It provides the chance to learn about Amakusa from the 16th century onward and its interactions with European culture. There are a variety of exhibits including materials related to the Collegio missionary school, and a replica of the Gutenberg printing press brought back to Amakusa by the boys and others of the ""Tensho Embassy."" Apart from their permanent exhibition, they regularly hold planned exhibits."

The ""hidden Christians"" from the hamlet of Sakitsu on Yokaku Bay maintained their faith for nearly 240 years in the face of intense persecution that started with the complete ban of the religion in 1638. Also known as the ""Church of the Sea,"" the whole fishing port area where it stands was selected as an Important National Cultural Landscape in 2011."

While the pottery has a long history, their work features modern designs to blend with contemporary life under a concept of ""vessels for daily use that enrich people's living spaces."" All of their pieces are masterfully created by hand without any machine-based mass production at all. The gallery's permanent exhibit features Maruo ware's work as well as pieces from other potters."

    Kumamoto Amakusa-shi Hondomachi Hontobaba 1148
"Amakusa's first Zen Buddhist temple was founded in 1645. The temple tells about the history of Amakusa Christians. After the Amakusa Shimabara Rebellion, it was built to help settle the minds of the confused islanders and convert Christians to Buddhism. The main gate is sometimes called the Amakusa-no-Yomeimon. The writing on is plaque refers to ""spreading the teachings of Buddhism and defeating the heresy of the sect of Jesus."" In addition, the stone stairs on the approach to the temple are carved with crosses; as with fumi-e paintings (where suspected Christians were forced to step on sacred images to show they weren't believers) people would have to step on the crosses as they walked to the temple. A Koyasu Kannon statue on the grounds recalls Mary; a statue of the Bodhisattva Jizo, commonly called the ""Foreigner Jizo,"" is clearly Caucasian."

It is a Zen temple in Amakusa, which was built after Amakusa Uprising to reactivate Buddhism. The main gate, which stands at the end of a long path, is very imposing. As the temple is on the top of...
