Since it was founded in 1715, this long established store has been selling ginger flavored sweets using age-old recipes passed down from father to only one son. Using only shussai ginger with its small amount of fiber and unique sweetness and aroma, the old-fashioned ginger sweets, made by melting the juice and sugar together over a charcoal fire, produce a delicately fresh aroma and refreshing sweetness with a hint of ginger spiciness coming through. The store also sells sugar with powdered green tea, ginger tea and seasonal ginger sweets. The historical store building that was rebuilt from the ashes of the Great Fire in 1876 and then further refurbished in the early Heisei period is also one of the highlights. The nearest station is Unshu-Hirata Station.

    木綿街道内に位置しており、ジンジャー系の販売店です♪ 他に開いているお店が少ないせいか、繁盛しておりました。!(^^)!

    Shimane Izumo-shi Imaichi
A long-standing Japanese sweet shop founded in 1873. It sells Sukune-mochi rice cakes, which are named after Nomi no Sukune, the originator of Sumo. The cakes have a moist, soft, and refined texture, and as they're made with kneaded gyuhi mochi, they're still delicious even after several days. They come in two varieties incorporating Izumo grown yuzu citron or fragrant domestic sesame seeds. They won the highest award at the 17th National Confectionery Exposition. The versatile treat makes a great gift and is the quintessential Izumo souvenir. The rice cakes are even part of the in-flight service on Fuji Dream Airlines.

A long-standing Japanese sweet shop founded in 1873. Located at the Goen Yokocho shopping area across from Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine's main entrance, they sell Japanese confections made of local ingredients. Their limited edition zenzai mochi rice cakes feature sweet bean paste inside the mochi rice. A delectable item with a refreshing sweetness and a saltiness that enhances the flavor of the ingredients, they're ideal for eating while exploring Izumo and make great gifts. They also sell Sukune-mochi, which won the highest prize at the National Confectionery Exposition, as well as pre-made packs of Izumo Zenzai celebratory soup for brightening up important occasions.

Shimane Areas

around-area-map

What Shimane prefecture lacks in size and population, it makes up for in scenery and ancient mythology. Izumo-taisha, in the middle of the prefecture, is said to be Japan’s oldest Shinto shrine, where stories that delve into the creation of the Japanese race have been passed down over centuries. The 180 Oki Islands, a 40-minute ferry ride north of Sakaiminato, offer an undiscovered paradise well off the beaten track.
