Kumamoto Aso-gun Minamiogunimachi Manganji Kurokawa 6612-2
This dorayaki pancake sandwich shop is situated along the narrow Igozaka hill road in Kurokawa Onsen. The shop sells a variety of charming Japanese-style confections with a focus on the Doradora Burger, a dorayaki pancake sandwich consisting of two handmade pancake buns stuffed with sweet red bean paste and a cream-filled daifuku rice cake. In total, the Doradora Burger is sold with five varieties of fillings - Aso Oguni Jersey cow milk cream, matcha green tea cream, custard cream, cafe au lait cream, and dekopon citrus fruit cream. The moist, tender pancake buns produce an exquisite harmony with the homemade fillings, blossoming in the mouth with a sweetness which is just right. A particularly popular product in Kurokawa Onsen, the pancake sandwiches are carefully cooked and wrapped one at a time, and oftentimes when you come late in the day the shop has already sold out. In addition to being a tasty treat to enjoy after a hot spring bath, they also make delightful souvenirs.

The rich red bean paste sandwiched with the dorayaki pancake mixed well with the chewy cream in the middle (tried the matcha green tea flavour, which is real good).

Crispy and characterized by an elegant sweetness, these confections are a favorite of all ages as a teatime snack and as a gift to give on special occasions."

The shop sells Kuridago made with lavish amounts of huge chestnuts from Kikuchi; ikinari dango cakes, a famous local confection from Kumamoto; and other sweets. "This Japanese candy shop is located a 10-minute walk from the Torichosuji tram station. The shop continues to make Chosen-ame (Korean candies), a traditional confection in Kumamoto whose history stretches back over 400 years. Chosen-ame are made with glutinous rice, mizuame glucose syrup, and sugar, and are characterized by a lightly sweet flavor and a texture similar to other Japanese hard candies. Long ago, they were called ""chosei-ame"" (long-life candies), but after Kato Kiyomasa, then-lord of Kumamoto Domain, brought them with him during an invasion of Korea and praised them for their delicious flavor as well as their long shelf life, they came to be called ""Korean candies."" While continuing to preserve tradition, the shop also takes on new challenges; for example, in 2018 the shop released lemon candies, its first new product in 115 years."
