    大和七福八宝巡りの札所で、宗派は真言宗御室派です。橿原神宮のすぐ側にあり、うっかり通り過ぎてしまいそうですが、とても落ち着いた由緒あるお寺です。

    Nara Pref. Narashi Zoushichou 406-1 in the Todaiji Temple
    It is a Buddhist hall within the precinct of Todai-ji in Nara City and is designated as a national treasure of Japan. It is famous for the Shuni-e (water-drawing) Ceremony, known as a seasonal tradition held in early spring. Although it is now held in the third month of the solar calendar, it used to be an event held in the second month of the lunar calendar, which brought about the name Nigatsu-do, literally February Hall. The principal images are believed to be two eleven-faced Kannon statues, but they are absolute hidden statues and kept strictly out of public view.

    Built in the mid-18th century, the Kawai residence continues to operate even today as a sake brewery under the Johonjiya brand name. Two stories tall with white mortar walls, the impressive building is designated an Important Cultural Property; touring the second floor requires an advance reservation.

    《今井町並み散歩（5月13-21日）》期間中の5月21日訪問しました。店内では《出世男》純米 無濾過生酒を[300ml 600円税込][1杯 200円税込]で販売されており 1杯だけ楽しみました（添付 写真参照）。なお 店舗の奥にある《酒造展示室》は 通常勝手に見学出来ず お店の方に了解を得るスタイルですが 《今井町並み散歩》期間中は 自由に見学出来るスタイルになっていました。

    This is a museum along Prefectural Route 160 in Taima, Katsuragi City. They display materials related to Taima no Kehaya, the founder of sumo wrestling. Inside the museum there is also a Dohyo (Sumo wrestling ring) of identical size to those used in official Sumo tournaments, and since visitors are free to climb up onto the ring, it is a popular place for Sumo fans.

    The former residence of the Kometani family, which once operated a metal ware business for generations under the company name “Komechu.” The current building is believed to have been built in the mid-18th century. A townhome with a gabled roof covered with wooden tiles, the expansive dirt floors are strongly reminiscent of a farmer’s home.

    Nara Kitakatsuragi-gun Kawaicho Kawai 99
    A shrine in Kawai, Kawai Town, Kitakatsuragi County. Located at the confluence of all of the rivers of the Nara Basin, it enshrines the deity Wakaukanome-no-Mikoto, who controls large harvests and water. On February 11th they hold the unusual Sunakake Festival in which sand is flung about like rain over the observers.

    二十二社の一つ、大和の全ての川が一つに集まるところにあり、水神を祀り近くにある龍田大社の風神と一対をなすとされています。日本書紀にも登場する社ですが現在の社殿は江戸時代のもので古くはありません。地下深くまで砂地であることや長い参道が特徴的で、橘の木立に清まる心持ちがしました。いつか有名な砂かけ祭りも見に来たいと思います。

    A museum dedicated to goldfish located in Yamatokoriyama, Nara, a city famous for producing goldfish. Goldfish are said to have been brought to Yamatokoriyama by Yanagisawa Yoshisato, who moved here to be the lord of the area during the Edo period, and it is believed that the techniques required for their cultivation were passed from samurai to farmers as a side business. The museum presents tools used in goldfish cultivation, items relating to folk customs, and goldfish-themed ukiyoe woodblock prints and ancient books. The museum’s goldfish aquariums, containing everything from ancestor varieties to high class and rare breeds, are a must-see.

    金魚養殖の業者の「やまと錦魚園」がやっている無料の資料館で、見るだけでなく、金魚を飼うことができる。30個ほどの水槽にそれぞれ珍しい金魚が観賞用に展示されている。それ以外に様々な大きさのたくさんの水槽に、何万円もするものなども売られていて、自由に見ることができる。

    This shrine, said to have been built at the behest of Emperor Kanmu during the Enryaku period (circa 800 AD) is famous for its flowers of each season. In the springtime, there are marvelous sakura and peonies blooming. The Shusse Inari Shrine within the grounds is said to bind relationships together and when entreated, will bring about romance. The heart shaped votive tablets, love fortunes, and amulets are very cute.

    奈良町の南の方にある神社。このあたりは元興寺の元寺域で、南大門があった場所とのこと。門前の狛犬の足に注目です。

    A shrine in Ichibucho, Ikoma City. The object of worship enshrined here is Mt. Ikoma and seven deities including Ikomatsuhiko-no-Kami and Ikomatsuhime-no-Kami are worshiped. This ancient shrine is worshiped from seventeen local townships in the Ikoma valley as a regional deity. The Annual Fire Festival held in October has been designated an intangible prefectural folk cultural property and the groves about the shrine have been designated a prefectural natural treasure.

    The Namako-style walls of The Museum Yamato Bunkakan are evocative of the architecture of the Momoyama Period. The museum's collection, which centers primarily on paintings, writings, sculptures, ceramics, lacquer work, metalwork, textiles, and glasswork from Japan, China, and Korea, includes four National Treasures, 31 Important Cultural Properties, and 14 important art objects.     This octagonal temple located inside the Kohfukuji Temple is designated an Important Cultural Property. As the ninth station in the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, the temple is visited by an unending stream of worshippers. The temple was built in 813 by the noble Fujiwara no Fuyutsugu in prayer for the happiness in the next world of his father, Fujiwara no Uchimaro. The current temple was rebuilt in 1789, the fourth time the temple was rebuilt, in an old-fashioned style believed to be modeled after the Hokuendo Temple, also located inside the Kohfukuji. The two principle objects of worship enshrined inside the temple, the Seated Figure of Amoghapasa and the Standing Figures of the Four Heavenly Kings, were created by famed sculptor Kokei. The temple doors behind which these statues are hidden are only opened on October 17 each year during the Reading of the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra.

    興福寺の境内の北西にあります。興福寺内の建築としては創建自体も五重塔よりも古いそうです。現存している建物は再建されたものですが、1210年頃ということで、境内の建物としては最も長いレべルだそうです。その割にはここに来る人は少なく、じっくり鑑賞できました。

    A museum situated inside the Todaiji Culture Center in Nara City, Nara Prefecture which preserves and displays the treasures of the Todaiji Temple. Through designated National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties, you can learn about the history of the Todaiji and the thinking of the people involved in the temple since its founding, as well as the significance of the Todaiji temple itself. The museum displays a variety of sculptures, calligraphy works, and handicrafts by era, including Nikko and Gakko Bosatsu Ritsuzo (standing statues of Suryaprabha and Candraprabha), designated National Treasures; and an Important Cultural Property-designated Senju Kannon Bosatsu standing figure of a thousand-armed Kannon.     This is a museum located in the vicinity of Takamatsuzuka at Asuka Historical National Government Park in Hirata, Asuka Village. The Asuka History Park is divided into five areas, each providing information regarding each district and exhibiting displays related to the history of Asuka. Information can be easily accessed through panel displays, as well as commentary by diorama, animation and a touch panel computer.

    休息がてらに寄らさせてもらいました。明日香村内に有る史跡などがパネルやミニチュアなどで紹介しています（無料）。駐車場も有るので車でも来れますよ。この館の裏に有る池のある公園も気分転換に散策出来ます。

    子供たちが、科学について学べる施設のようです。少し時間が余ったので入りましたが、家族連れには良さそうな内容でした。

    This Buddhist temple, one of the leading Jodo Shinshu temples in Nara Prefecture, possesses a woven mandala created the same way as the famous Taima Mandala which, according to legend, was made by Chujo-hime. A part of the Taimadera temple, the temple has a garden and cultural properties connected to the Taima Mandala and the great priest Honen. Its grounds are also dotted with historic structures and Buddhist statues.

    One of the largest of its kind in Japan at 50 meters per side, this tomb was built by piling up 30 large boulders. Having lost the soil which once covered it and due to the flatness of the ceiling stone, the tomb is called the Stone Stage. It is not clear to whom the tomb belonged, but due to the fact that a garden which belonged to Soga no Iruka’s grandfather Soga no Umako is located nearby, one leading theory is that it is his tomb. The surrounding area blooms with cherries in the spring and red spider lilies in the fall. The tomb is a nationally designated a Special Historic Site.

    This is a shrine located along the Yasuragi-no-Michi Street in Honkomoricho Town, Nara City. This shrine was established by Empress Suiko in 593, and is known as the oldest shrine in Nara City. The shrine is dedicated to Himetataraisuzuhime-no-Mikoto, the wife of Emperor Jinmu. Worshippers have prayed for the safety of children at the shrine since long ago as the parents of the Empress are dedicated as deities of the shrine as well. Nara's oldest Ebisu (God of commerce) Shrine is also in the precinct and many people visit the shrine to pray for success in business.

    593年に勅命により神武天皇の皇后の媛蹈韛五十鈴姫命を祭神として奉斎し、のちに父神の狭井大神、母神の玉櫛姫命が祀られた、奈良市最古の神社で、式内社です。 皇后を主祭神とする珍しい神社で、親子の神様が祀らているので、子守明神と呼ばれて安産や育児の神様です。 境内は無人、社務所に書置きの御朱印ありました。

    This museum is situated in Yanagimoto Town, Tenri City, Nara Prefecture. It is focused on the “Kurozuka Kofun”, keyhole-shaped tomb, from which a number of artifacts were excavated, including the 33-sided “Sankakuen shinjukyo” bronze mirror excavated in 1998, which has the most sides of any bronze mirror discovered in Japan. Inside, you’ll find a replica of the tomb’s pit rock chamber as well as replicas of the artifacts. There are also many materials and panel displays on the Kofun period, the Kurozuka Kofun, and the excavations. The view of the rock chamber from the second-floor stairwell is breathtaking.

    This is a cultural property examination and research center located in Horyuji-nishi 1-chome, Ikaruga Town. It spreads information regarding the preservation and display of cultural properties, and promotes the study of the Fujinoki Tumulus and Ikaruga's history through images and exhibits of Fujinoki Tumulus burial accessory replicas.

    凄いお宝を持つ藤ノ木古墳の資料館だと思っていたのに小さい。とにかく小さい。たまたま秋季特別展で出土品は三点しかなかったにしても、レプリカでいいからもっと出土品を味わいたかった。本物は国立とかハイレベルな博物館に持って行かれちゃったのだろうが、レプリカでいいからもっと見せて欲しかった。周りのコスモスは11/09でもいっぱい花が咲いていて良い感じ。

With a reputation almost as stellar as that of Kyoto, Nara is a must-visit for those searching for the remains of "traditional Japan." The largely green Nara city holds the majority of the prefecture’s treasures, such as the iconic Todai-ji Temple, in which a 15-meter tall Great Buddha sits, and Nara Park, where deer flock to befriend passersby. While mountains are by no means hard to come by in this area, for hiking with a reward, head to the Kii Mountains’ Yoshino district in spring, when the hillsides put on an impressive display of white and pink cherry blossoms.
