- A historic building located in Shin-machi, Omihachiman City. The residence was built by Ban Shoemon the seventh, a Hachiman merchant active during the Edo period. In the Meiji period, the residence was given to the local government, after which it was used as a school, town hall, and library.

市営駐車場近くで最初に目に付く旧家でした。他の旧家、資料館とのセットの入場券がありましたのでここで購入しました。元々は近江商人の家で商売は中断したようですが、その後は学校として使われた一般家屋としてはかなりの大きさです。五月人形、武者人形の展示がおこなわれていました。はいってすぐの高い天井が印象に残りました。スタッフから解説も受けることができました。

- A Buddhist temple located in Eigenji Takano-cho, Higashiomi City. The temple was founded by the monk Jakushitsu Genko after Sasaki Ujiyori, the military commission of Omi, donated the land in 1361 during the Nanboku-cho period. The temple’s principal object of worship, a “hidden Buddha” figure depicting the Kanzeon Bodhisattva, is displayed to the general public only once every 25 years or so. The temple’s grounds are also a renowned destination for fall foliage viewing.

ご祭神は八千矛神、名神大社の式内社で、旧県社とのことです。平安時代後期作庭の庭園が国の名勝指定です。庭園がきれいでした。休日でしたが訪れている方は少なく、ゆっくり庭園を独占できました。無料駐車場があります。

市営駐車場の近くでした。入場券は先に旧伴家住宅で共通のものを購入しました。郷土資料館と歴史民俗資料館が別の建屋の展示になっていました。漁業の歴史というと海に面した町でしか見たことがなかったので湖の漁業の歴史展示は興味深く拝見しました。ここでも近江商人の生活展示がありました。

ヴォーリス作の名建築の一つです。元は醒井郵便局です。見た目は鉄筋みたいだが、実は木造２階建の擬洋風建築です。現在は資料館となっている。入館は２００円、９時から５時まで。毎月曜日は休館。古い建物が続く旧醒井宿の家並でひと際、異彩を放っている素晴らしい外観の建物でした。

- This is Japan’s largest lake with a general surface area of approximately 670 square kilometers. Water from nearly 460 class A rivers flows into the lake, and of those, 118 rivers flow directly into Lake Biwa. The origin of the lake is estimated to be approximately four million years ago, and although the lake changed location and appeared and disappeared with the changing eras, the current Lake Biwa was shaped about 430,000 years ago. Together with Lake Baikal and the Caspian Sea, Lake Biwa is one of the world’s 20 oldest lakes, and every year approximately 50,000 waterfowl migrate to the lake, which is why its wetlands are registered under the Ramsar Convention.

- The site of a ruined castle, located in Shimotoira Azuchi-cho, Omihachiman City. The castle that once stood here was built over a three-year period starting in 1576 to serve as the home of the mighty samurai lord Oda Nobunaga. The castle was destroyed by fire after the Honnoji Temple Incident. Today, the castle’s stone base, moat, and mausoleum for Nobunaga built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi still stand and the grounds have been designated a National Special Historic Site.

竹生島の往復に利用しました。 赤い「直正」丸？に乗船、大河ドラマはあまり見ないので思い入れはありませんが、快適なクルーズで、お天気が良かったので帰りは二階のベンチで、離れて行く竹生島を眺めました。 彦根港には無料駐車場があります。
Shiga Areas
