    Under the control of the Zenkoji Temple, this Buddhist temple is one of 20 Tendai monk-soldier temples and one of 25 Daikanjin temples built via solicitations. The main temple building has suffered fires 11 times; the current structure was rebuilt in 1707 and the most recent fire was a massive conflagration in 1624. Strongly influenced by the trends of Edo period architecture, its design closely resembles the main shrine complex of the Nikko Toshogu shrine. The temple has been designated a National Important Cultural Property.

    Kagami Pond, situated 1,200 meters above sea level, is a depression filled with spring water situated at the foot of the Togakushi Mountains, land which long ago formed the bottom of the ocean and which later rose and grew to form mountains. A walking path encircles the pond; one circuit takes around 30 minutes. The walking path connects with Togakushi Forest Botanical Garden and Tenmei Inari Shrine, dedicated to Toyoukeno-Omikami, goddess of the outer shrine at Ise, is located along the way. The area is beautiful year round, but the time around mid-October when the fall foliage is at its peak is particularly stunning.

    The dinosaur park has 25 stunning, life-sized dinosaurs arranged in order of the age in which they existed. The 33 hectare botanical park is one of the largest in the prefecture and close to 200 varieties of plants are grown here.

    The Enmado hall of this famous Buddhist temple enshrines the largest statue of the Buddhist deity Yama. Highlights include a well said to have been used to wash the removed head of Sanada Yukimura, a memorial to those who fell in the battles of Kawanakajima, and a memorial honoring the individual battle between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. The temple's Kawanakajima Gassen Kinenkan museum, dedicated to the Battles of Kawanakajima, contains a collection of over 60 historically valuable items, including Buddhist imagery; arms; and portraits of Takeda Shingen, Sanada Yukimura, and Yamamoto Kansuke.

    This mausoleum for Sanada Nobuyuki, ancestor to the lords of Matsushiro Domain, was built in 1660. The mausoleum is located on the grounds of the Chokokuji Temple, a Soto Buddhist temple. The magnificent irimoya-zukuri-style mausoleum has a hipped, gabled roof which is shingled, and 3 bays between its columns and four bays between its beams. Today, the mausoleum has been designated a National Important Cultural Property and enshrines ihai Buddhist mortuary tablets for Nobuyuki and his wife Komatsu.

The store is also popular because of its wide selection of sizes and its telephone service.

Records state the temple was founded by the priest Kanku in 803 and built by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro to pray for victory when he left for his military expedition in Tohoku. The temple is also famous for its 350 year old weeping cherry blossom tree, which comes into bloom in most years around mid-April.

The shop uses only superior domestically grown chestnuts with a focus on chestnuts from the local Obuse area. The shop sorts its choice chestnuts while still fresh based on sweetness and tenderness, using only specific types of chestnuts for specific recipes to ensure customers can enjoy the innate deliciousness of chestnuts.

    Since ancient times, this sake and miso shop has been known as the brewer closest to the Zenkoji Temple. Making seishu refined sake, miso, amazake sweet half sake, and umeshu plum liqueur, the shop allows visitors to sample many of its foods and beverages. Established as a brewery in 1637, even today the shop is known for its Zenkoji sake. The Kumo version of the shop's additive-free Zenkoji Miso is completely fermented, meaning the miso fermentation process has completely stopped, resulting in a miso with a rich fragrance and mild flavor popular with many.

    This Edo-higanzakura cherry blossom tree is the only one in Japan to be designated a National Natural Monument. The huge tree is around nine meters in circumference at the base and is estimated to be 1,200 years old. Each year in spring when it comes into bloom, its beauty delights the eyes of large numbers of visitors. The tree blossoms from late April to early May. Located on the grounds of Suzakura Shrine in Izumidaira, Nagano City, according to legend the tree grew from a cherry wood cane the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto planted on the bank of the pond when he rested here.

    A shopping street located in Nagano Motozen-cho, Nagano City. The shopping street originated from the business activities of street merchants and tachi-dealers that had been conducted in the precincts of Zenkoji Temple since the Middle Ages. After the relocation of Zenkoji Temple's Nyorai-do Hall, merchants began to gather at the vacant lot, and after the Meiji Restoration, their stalls were established as permanent stores. Today, the area is still crowded with visitors to Zenkoji Temple, with a variety of stores ranging from traditional stores to fashionable cafes, including Hachimanya Isogoro, a long-established shichimi (seven spice) shop that is known as a standard Zenkoji Temple souvenir.

    An elegant French restaurant which fully makes use of the attractive building it operates out of, a designated National Tangible Cultural Property. This red brick, Western-style building was originally built in 1912 as an office for the Shinanochu Gyuba Goshi Kaisha shipping company. In addition to its standard menu, on Tuesdays with an advance reservation, customers can savor a full course French meal prepared by Hideyo Kitamura, one of Nagano's top French cuisine masters.

    Lunch set was very nice, pleasant place. Unfortunately, the salmon that I have inquire about was not really smoked, as shown in the photo and as I was told. It was more cooked, but still it was nice.

    This soba noodle restaurant, originally under the direct control of the Zenkoji Temple, has long been a favorite of temple visitors and locals. Established in 1890, this well-reviewed restaurant has continued to make soba noodles according to a traditional recipe and production method for three generations and received three registered trademarks in 1972. The restaurant's signature Ippin Gozen Soba noodles are made with buckwheat flour from Nagano and have a rich buckwheat flavor.

    長野市の善光寺表参道にあるそば屋さんです。店名の「クイチ」にちなみ、つなぎがかなり少ないそばが味わえます。個人的にはつなぎが少ない方が風味が増すので好きなんですけどね。信州人は基本的にざるそばですが、温かいそばのメニューも充実していて観光客にもオススメです。
