  • Yusakamichi, Old Kamakura Road

    Kanagawa Ashigarashimo-gun Hakonemachi
    It is said that Minamoto no Yoritomo used this road when he made a pilgrimage to Nichosho, and it is now maintained as a hiking trail.
  • Owakudani Ubako Nature Sightseeing Footpath

    Kanagawa Ashigarashimo-gun Hakonemachi Ubako
    This nature trail stretches for about one kilometer from Owakudani to Ubako Onsen. Although the descent from Owakudani is a little steep, it is easy to walk because the distance is relatively short. It takes about 30 minutes to walk the path. It is a great place to take a stroll while admiring the lush greenery of plants such as maiden silvergrass, Japanese knotweed, Japanese beech and tall stewartia. It is said that June and July, when the tall stewartia flowers are in full bloom, and October and November, when the autumn leaves are at their best, are the best times to visit.
  • Ubako Kojiri Natural Road

    This walkway stretches from Ubako to Lake Ashi (Kojiri). It is easy for both children and adults to walk as there is a gentle downhill slope with signs along the way. It takes about 30 minutes. When there is good weather, you can enjoy walking in the sunlight filtering through the surrounding trees.
  • Dogashima Valley Promenade

    Kanagawa Ashigarashimo-gun Hakonemachi Miyanoshita
    A 30 to 40-minute walking path from Dogashima Onsen to Kiga Onsen along the Hayakawa Ravine, which seems nearly bottomless. It is said that the Nanbokucho period Buddhist priest Muso Soseki (Kokushi) spent some time there in seclusion. Today there are some stone monuments as well as the site of his hermitage.
  • Kojiri Promenade

    Kanagawa Ashigarashimo-gun Hakonemachi Motohakone
    This promenade is located along Lake Ashi. It stretches for about three kilometers from Lake Ashi's cruise ship landing point at Kojiri to Hakone-en, an outdoor leisure facility. There are many trees, such as the Japanese dogwood and sal trees, that grow naturally in the area, and it offers a variety of views along with Lake Ashi. While on the path, there is a road that leads to Kuzuryu Shrine, and you can pay a visit if you go through the botanical garden for a fee. There is also a road that leads to Bogasawa, the trailhead to Mt. Kamiyama and Mt. Komagatake
  • Sukumogawa Nature Sightseeing Trail

    Kanagawa Ashigarashimo-gun Hakonemachi Sukumogawa
    A sightseeing trail that connects the southern area of Lake Ashi with Motohakone following the Sukumogawa River. The route has a total length of nearly six kilometers and intersects with the Old Tokaido Road and the Old Hakone Road. The path is well maintained and rich in a wide variety of different scenery including log bridges, suspension bridges, sections paved with cobblestones, mountain streams, and more. Along the path you'll also come across a number of highlights including the Hakone Packhorse Driver's Song Monument inscribed with the lyrics to the song they'd sing as they crossed the Hakone pass and Saunji Temple, a temple with a history associated with vengeance.

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
