    "This trail was a military roadway developed during the Warring States Period. It runs from south to west across the Yatsugatake Mountain foothills, connecting the borders between the former provinces of Kai and Shinano (modern Yamanashi and Nagano Prefectures respectively). The trail was reportedly made to help Takeda Shingen capture Shinano. ""Bomichi"" means the ""staff road"" and was named for its straightness. Today it's a nature trail, and a walking map is available to help you take in the rich environment along the way. It also has 36 stone Buddhist statues marking various sacred spots from the Edo Period. "
