- Located just off the Yamagata Kaminoyama Interchange on the Tohoku Chuo Expressway, Yamagata Kanko Bussan Kaikan “Gutto Yamagata” is a tourist destination with many attractive features. Special attractions include The Street of 100-Year-Old Shops and the sections where Yamagata saké and other famous food ingredients and products from Yamagata Prefecture. Just inside the entrance is an event plaza, where local governments, businesses, and others in the prefecture hold events daily as efforts to promote Yamagata.

美味しい食とお酒を提供する山形県の名産やお土産が販売されています。私は日本酒やさくらんぼ関連の食品を購入しました。 ちなまにこの建物の向かって左側に「菜果園」という佐藤錦を始めとする高級さくらんぼを販売するお店が数店舗あります。佐藤錦だけはこちら菜果園に行かれて品定めすることをお勧めします。種類が豊富で、品質がやや落ちたものが半額以下で購入できました。

- Tanno Konnyaku specializes in the Asian vegetable known as konnyaku and is located along the Ushu Highway in Minazawa Suwamae in the city of Kaminoyama. It serves multicourse traditional meals centered on konnyaku, especially the round konnyaku that Yamagata Prefecture is famous for. In its retail shop, customers can buy prepared treats, such konnyaku glazed with miso and grilled, konnyaku basted with a sweet soy sauce and grilled on a stick, and a chewy treat called Mochikon.

- This parlor established beside the Shiraito no Taki Drive-in is located along National Route 47 in Furukuchi Tsuchiyu, TozawaVillage, Mogami County. It faces the Mogami River, and offers visitors a lunch menu as well as dessert in a shop with a view on Shiraito Falls, which has been selected as one of the Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. Visitors can enjoy pork fried with ginger and fillet burgers made with Komenokobuta, the branded pork from Yamagata, as well as Neapolitan pasta with seafood and special beef curry.

- This beef cuisine restaurant is located in Niirone, Nanyo City. The Asahiya is one of the few meat purveyors that has trading rights in the Yonezawagyu beef wholesale market. One can enjoy Yonezawagyu beef at a reasonable price thanks to the owner's personal successful bidding skills. The lunch menu includes a sirloin steak lunch, as well as the popular Shokuraku stone grilled beef set which comes with miso soup, pickles, and more. The dinner menu includes the restaurant's specialty, Yonezawagyu beef sukiyaki and Yonezawagyu beef shabu shabu, which are highly recommended.

- This eatery is just a five-minute drive from the JR Oishida Station. One can enjoy ramen with the Obanazawa specialty pickled watermelon, or the Obanazawa beef ramen which is garnished with pesora pickles. This local ramen dish is made with a simple soy sauce based soup which wonderfully pairs with the slightly spicy pesora pickles. This family friendly restaurant also has a children's menu including the Yoiko-chan good-kid's ramen which comes with a melon cream soda. They also offer zaru noodles with large tempura shrimp, hamburg steak, mabo-dofu, and custard pudding.

そば街道に載ってますけど蕎麦屋というより、田舎の何でもあり？ファミレス？感覚のお店です。いろいろあるので何が食べたいっていうのがなかったのでちょうど良かったです。 尾花沢牛ラーメン食べましたが普通に美味しかったです。

- About a 25-minute drive from the Sakata Minato Interchange off the Nihonkai Tohoku Expressway, this restaurant adjoins the Chokaizan Onsen Hoyo Center, Apon Nishihama day-use hot spring facility. The most popular dish on the menu is the voluminous Tontan-men, a spicy soup made from pork bone, miso with tan-tan noodles, topped with vegetables in a 30-centimeter bowl. Original to Yuza town, the Yuza curry is also popular. It is made with a special curry sauce using Chokaisan produce. This cafe has an open deck, and visitors can dine in or outside.

- Just a three-minute drive from the JR Fukura Station, this Kiosk is in the parking area of the famous Juroku Rakan Iwa natural formation, which has been selected by the Japan Fisheries Agency as one of the 'top 100 historical cultural properties of fishing industries and villages that are to be preserved for the future.’ The specialty is yuhi ramen, sunset ramen, which uses spring water from Mt. Chokai with broth made from flying fish and topped with aosa seaweed. Other shops line the area selling souvenirs of Juroku Rakan hand towels, as well as simple galleries that sell photographs of the sun setting into the Sea of Japan. It is ideally located for a rest area on your way back from hiking or sightseeing in the region.

山形と言えば平田牧場の豚肉ですね。 金華豚ロースカツ＆ヒレカツ盛り合わせを注文しました。 高級な豚肉である金華豚がリーズナブルな価格で食べられました。 ソースが3種類、ドレッシングが2種類あります。 ゴマを摺ってソースをかけてそこにカツをくぐらせて頂きます。 とてもおいしかったです。

Although often overlooked, Yamagata prefecture by no means lacks appeal: the Yamadera temple trail through the mountains, deliciously tender Yonezawa wagyu, and over 100 steaming hot springs, most notably Zao Onsen, await visitors. When winter comes, the snowcapped peaks become dotted with skiers by day and onsen-goers by night, while summer brings the celebration of juicy Yamagata cherries.
