    Shori-cho Shari-gun, Hokkaido Utorokagawa 124
Kiraku-bo is a store situated about 10 minutes’ walk from the bus terminal at the Utoro hot spring resort which sells handicraft products carved from wood and a variety of other items. Inside the store, which is redolent of the soft warmth of wood, there are also artifacts carved from the antlers of Hokkaido’s Yezo Sika Deer. Each of these handmade items has its own unique design, and it is worth taking the time to examine them all and see which one is right for you. The deer has since time immemorial been viewed as a sacred animal; the gods were believed to sometimes transform themselves into the form of deer. Deer antlers are renowned as a charm that is believed to protect the owner from drowning and shipwreck.

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
