Nopporo Shinrin Koen Prefectural Natural Park boasts about 2,000 hectares of land which extends across Sapporo City, Ebetsu City and Kitahiroshima City. It was designated as a Hokkaido Nature Park in 1968 to commemorate Hokkaido’s centenary. The park is 80% national forest and maintains 17 pathways. The park has about 110 trees, over 1300 insects, and over 140 species of wild birds, as well as the Hokkaido squirrel and mountain hare inhabiting the lowland forest, which is also a wildlife sanctuary, so you can observe rare plants and animals in close proximity. Check out the visitor’s center to get information about the nature in the park and Hokkaido. Nature observation sessions and guided tours are also available.

Hokkaido Areas

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
