The Twin Towers Hotel is the famous landmark of Hoshino Resorts Tomamu. Standing in the center of Tomamu, it is quite conveniently located near a restaurant district and outdoor center. In addition to simple, practical standard rooms, they have family rooms, and Mama-rakuda rooms that have been outfitted for ease of use for families with babies, making it a popular place to stay with kids.

Stayed for 5 nights. Enough snow though it was only early season. It offered many skiing routes, many eateries, open air bath, indoor pool and many activities you and the kids could join. Its one of...

Visitors to Shikisai-no-oka in the summer can enjoy the beautiful vistas of colorful flower fields, while in the winter they can experience standing in the midst of a vast expanse of snow. Besides the extensive flower gardens, farmers’ fields and Alpaca ranch, Shikisai-no-oka also has a farm guesthouse where visitors can stay. The farm shop sells vegetables grown locally, as well as other products sourced directly from local farmers. Shikisai-no-oka is located 25 minutes’ walk from JR Bibaushi Station.

Furano is usually known for flower beds but I believe this area in Biei wont be behind in terms of beauty. I recommend buying cool sliced very sweet melons sold in the nearby show while enjoying...

Ningle Terrace is a shopping area located in the forest adjacent to the New Furano Prince Hotel. Ningle appears in the book of the same name written by So Kuramoto and refers to the 15 centimeter-tall character known as The Wise Man of the Forest who lived in the forests of Hokkaido in the past. The line of small cottages in the forest with a collection of a variety of craft shops is like getting lost in a picture book. During the day, you can enjoy bathing in the forest while after sunset you can walk the romantic forest paths which are illuminated.

Out of the sixteenth handcrafted shops only three were open. I first visited in the afternoon but after seeing photos taken at night I return later to find only three shops open again. Looks better...

Furano Ski Resort is a ski resort in Furano owned by New Furano Prince Hotel. There are two areas with a total of 24 courses can be enjoyed by advanced through to beginner skiers; the Kitanomine zone has good quality snow and a diverse array of courses while the Furano zone mainly has long run courses. In January to February you can ski on a surface of dry powder snow. Snowboarding is available on all courses. There is also a kids experience program which is perfect for first-time skiers and playing in the snow.

One of the better ski resorts I’ve been to. A gondola, a ropeway and nine other lifts. Many runs to chose from, most of them are wide and well groomed. Staff at the resort are very friendly and...

“Ken and Marry Tree” shot to fame after being used as a backdrop in a Nissan Skyline TV commercial (Ken and Marry were the stage names of the actors who appeared in the commercial). This soaring poplar tree set amidst rolling hills is a magnificent sight.

A tall tree that appeared in a commercial before, not worth visiting unless you run out of places to kill time..

The “Patchwork Road” runs over the hills of Biei, with a beautiful patchwork of different-colored crops in the fields beside the road. The Seven Stars Tree stands on one of these rolling hills. The tree was given this name after a photo of it was used on Seven Stars cigarette packets in 1976; its rounded silhouette adds an extra touch of beauty to the peaceful scene.

Many tourists stop by to take pictures of it. I dont think it is worth it unless you are visiting / finding the other trees.

This garden was used as a location for the filming of the TV drama series “Kaze no Garden” (“Garden of the Wind”), written by famous scriptwriter Sou Kuramoto. The garden has approximately 20,000 individual plants belonging to over 450 different species, giving visitors a real experience of the natural beauty of Furano. In the summer, the “Night Garden,” in which the trees and plants are specially illuminated under the starry skies, enables visitors to enjoy an even more magically beautiful scene.

This garden with the blooming flowers is so lovely. Even my hubby enjoyed viewing the many many different types of flowers and plants. Very well maintained garden and cottage.

    Hokkaido Kamikawagumbieichou Shirogane
Depending on the time of year and the angle that you view it from, the water of Shirogane Blue Pond may appear either blue or green. Surrounded by ancient trees (including Japanese Larch), and with the sunlight creating magical effects on the water’s surface, this is a very popular place for taking photos. In winter, the Pond is illuminated, creating an even more mysterious effect. The Pond receives very large numbers of visitors on weekends and during the Golden Week (roughly April 29 to early May) holiday period, so it’s best to allow yourself plenty of time to get there.

A roadside station housed inside a remodeled storehouse built of local soft stone in Biei Town. Inside, the extensive use of Biei Japanese larch wood gives the station a warm, inviting atmosphere. Here you can buy cider modeled after Biei's famous Blue Pond; local specialty products like Biei milk, pork, and flour; and wood and ceramic pieces by local artists. Events such as solo and photo exhibitions featuring artists connected to Biei are periodically held in the station's event space.

didnt see too much here...just a wayside stop and a place where folks sold some natural produce. there was a nice apple crepe shop next to it.

Goro’s Stone House is the house built by Goro Kuroita, the main character in the TV drama series “Kita no Kuni Kara” (“From the North Country”). In the TV series, Goro builds a house by clearing some of the many stones from Mt. Furano (formerly an active volcano) that were littering the fields. This is the house that Goro and his family were shown living in initially; the fireplace and stone bath have been preserved in the same condition as when the series was first being filmed in the 1980s.

Goros stone house is far from the city. You need to drive more the 40 minutes to reach there. It is not convenience to take public transport. Ideal transport is self drive. The attraction is at...

This is one of the largest lavender fields in Japan, and is managed by Farm Tomita. Farm Tomita is a true Hokkaido icon and has a variety of flower fields to see, including Irodori Field, which paints the hills in all the colors of the rainbow. The fields stretch out for four kilometers eastward from the farm center toward the Tokachi mountain range. This area was originally a paddy farm that changed to growing flowers for aroma essence. Most years, the lavender blooms from early through mid-July, and the combination of gentle flowers and stunning Tokachi mountain range is an incredible sight. The park grounds have observation decks, toilets, and a welcome house selling original goods and soft-serve ice cream.

We were at Farm Tomita Lavender East at the right time when the lavender was in full bloom. Smell of the lavender is so sweet and the rows and rows of lavender is so beautiful with backdrop of...

Many different varieties of lavender are planted amongst the farm's fields. Dried lavender and lavender potpourri are available for purchase at the shop.

This michi-no-eki roadside station is on National Route 38 in Minami Furano Town, Sorachi County, Hokkaido. There's a massive fish pool with live Sakhalin taimen and white spotted char from the nearby Sorachi River, and the Butter Potatoes made with local Minami Furano potatoes are a hit. Canoes are also quite popular with locals, so the building itself was designed to resemble one.

We aimed for this Michi-no-Eki to eat Ezoshika Deer, served here as a cutlet with vegetables like pumpkin, eggplant, and shishito covered in a slightly spicy curry. Delicious. The meat was soft...

This creative cuisine restaurant was established in 1980 under the theme of ‘Bringing Furano into Kumagera!’ It was opened during the filming of a famous TV drama and was adored by the actors and TV crew. Popular dishes on the menu are the whey curry, made from Furano cow’s milk, and the wagyu roast beef on a bed of rice. They also offer a wide range of dishes using locally sourced ingredients and an array of sake. The interior of the shop has an artistic feel and uses wooden beams retrieved from the river bed to create a relaxed space. The nearest station is Furano Station.

Kumagera never fails to please. Such beautiful food, fresh and healthy. We come back here every year when we visit and walking out smiling. A little more expensive but you get what you pay for...

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn.
