A precipice located on Cape Hyuga in Nippo Kaigan Quasi-National Park. The cliff was formed when lava from a volcanic eruption cooled and hardened, and the name is thought to have come from the fact that the rocks resemble a horseback. With 200 meters in length, the geological feature has been designated a National Natural Monument. A popular destination due to its picturesque scenery, it is visited by large numbers of tourists.

    Miyazaki Pref. Hyugashi Hososhima
“Cruz” is the Portuguese word for “cross.” From the “Sea of Cruz” viewing platform, the distant rocks seem to form the Japanese character for “kanau” (“to grant”), and as such it is said that visitors will get their wishes granted. A bell was installed here for visitors to purify their hearts and announce to the heavens their wishes. The shape of the bell represents two people looking after and caring for one another.

A garden located in Higashiusuki County, Miyazaki Prefecture. Some two million bigleaf hydrangeas grow on the park's vast, 20 hectares of grounds, and during the rainy season visitors can enjoy the magical scenery created by their flowers and backed by the vast ocean beyond. Many other flowers also bloom in the garden, including peach blossoms, jacaranda, and bougainvillea. Mt. Tomi Observatory, located nearby, is also known for its picturesque view of the hydrangea.

An unmissable highlight of Kyushu, Miyazaki prefecture satisfies nature lovers with its dramatic gorges cut out of rugged cliffs, leading into waterfalls and beaches of green-blue water popular among surfers. Takachiho Gorge in the north of the prefecture tells a tale of centuries-old Japanese mythology in a fantastic setting, allowing visitors to explore the waters by boat before heading up to the cave at the Awano Iwato Shrine, where the sun goddess was said to have hidden, plunging the world into darkness.
