A safari park-style zoo located in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture where visitors can view wild animals from a vehicle in settings close to their natural environment. In the Safari Zone, visitors can view African elephants, huge American black bears, lions, tigers, and more, either from their own car or a reservable bus tour which includes a chance to feed some of the animals. The park’s petting zoo, where visitors can play with and feed cute animals such as kangaroos and capybaras, is also quite popular. The zoo also has rare live white tiger and white lion exhibits. Finally, the park has a restaurant and an amusement park area with a giant Ferris wheel and roller coasters, ensuring families can enjoy an entire, fun-filled day here.

Akiyoshidai, in the eastern part of Mine City in Yamaguchi Prefecture, is home to the “Akiyoshido,” Japan’s greatest limestone cave. The entrance to the cave has a height of 24 meters and a width of eight meters, and the cave’s deepest point is about 200 meters below the surface. There are plenty of sights to see such as the giant Golden Pillar, a travertine pillar with a height of approximately 15 meters, and the Hundred Saucers, which look like terraced rice-fields. The interior of the cave stretches for nearly 10 kilometers, but the sightseeing path only ventures to about one kilometer into the cave. The temperature remains stable at nearly 17°C throughout the year, and a wide range of ages can comfortably tour the cave.

This museum, located in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is for the purpose of academic research and nature conservation of Akiyoshidai. The history and formation of caves, as well as the living organisms are clearly explained. In addition to the specimens, photos and fossils on display, visitors are also able to watch videos. "This Roadside Station is on National Route 435 in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is famous for having a large Buddha statue of good fortune in the parking lot. ""Mito burdock"", a specialty of the region and ""Mito Ekiben lunch boxes"", limited to Saturdays and Sundays, are available. Visitors can taste dishes made with burdock root at the restaurant. A fresh spring pond located on the grounds of Beppu Itsukushima-jinja Shrine in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This mystical pond sparkles cobalt blue in the sunlight, and it is one of the top sightseeing destinations in the Akiyoshi-dai Plateau area. The waters of the pond, welling up from the limestone of the karst plateau, are rich in calcium, and are a cold 14°C. Selected as one of Japan’s 100 most famous waters, locals also use its waters for cooking, washing vegetables, and other daily lives. There is a water station near the pond for people to draw fresh spring water. Legend has it that the spring burst forth after the elder of a town facing a water shortage prayed here to the goddess Benzaiten as instructed in a dream, and each year on the first Sunday in September, a Benten Festival is held and a dance called the Beppu Nenbutsu Odori is offered to the goddess.

This recreation complex is about a five-minute drive from Edo Interchange off of Ogori-Hagi Road. The nature-wrapped grounds hold a campground, bathing center, ground golf course, and restaurant. The campground has flushing toilets and laundry facilities, and is the first hot spring bathhouse-equipped campground in the prefecture. They offer tent and cooking equipment rentals, so it's the perfect chance for a casual outdoor camping experience.

A Jizo Bodhisattva statue in Kamikatakura Nishikiwa, Ube City. This is the visitor's center for Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park. It is adjacent Taishodo cavern, a limestone cavern full of variation, and offers an introduction to the geology, history and nature of Akiyoshidai plateau. The hall holds various activity areas to engage all five senses, and you can enjoy learning about the natural environment, and ecological system of Akiyoshidai through images, models, and touch panel search machines. The Cave Interior Field offers cave simulation lessons on the creation of stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the flora and fauna in the cave.

やっぱり秋吉台に行ったのなら、自然そのものに触れる時間を多くとったほうが満足感が高いと思います。時間にゆとりがあるなら訪れるのも良いかも。

This hot spring facility is on National Route 190 in Habu, Sanyo-Onoda City. It uses water from two sources, the Oki and Itone springs, both rich in radon, which is said to accelerate metabolism, and boost healing and the immune-system response. Each source spring feeds into outdoor and indoor baths, as well as into cascade baths or jet baths, and there are also saunas available. Other facilities include relaxation and break spaces, and the diner Drive-in Michishio, famous for Kaijiru shellfish soup, is connected.

Yamaguchi Mine-shi Ominecho Higashi

Yamaguchi prefecture, along with Iwate and Kochi, is one of Japan's top fossil producing areas. This fossil museum, about a five-minute walk from Mine Station, is exhibiting with a focus on the themes of vertebrates, ammonites and insects which are likely to be interested among the various fossils produced. The exhibits offer a more sensuous experience so that even children can easily learn about the fossils. They also offer the experiential learning program digging fossils from raw stone.

化石採掘をしたかったのですが、美祢市でディキノドンが発見され、しばらく閉鎖に。せっかくなのでこちらの見学をさせていただきました。何億年前の・・・とか、このあたりでヒョウやトラの化石が発掘・・・とか、普段考えることのない地球生誕の神秘の謎に意識がタイムスリップし、悠々たる時空間を漂っているような、とてもいい時間が過ごせました。次回は自分で採掘したいです。
