This museum, located in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is for the purpose of academic research and nature conservation of Akiyoshidai. The history and formation of caves, as well as the living organisms are clearly explained. In addition to the specimens, photos and fossils on display, visitors are also able to watch videos. Mini special exhibitions, along with permanent exhibitions, are also held.

秋吉台の大規模逆転構造、備中大賀の押被せを発見した小澤義昭博士の胸像があり、地層の年代判別するフリズナ化石収集されていた。職員の方たちは質問にとても分かりやすく丁寧に答えてくださいました。

小さくて目立たないが、何十年も秋吉台を大切に観察・保護してきたことがわかる素敵な博物館。秋吉台の成り立ちや、地形・地質・そこに住む生き物など、秋吉台に関する説明の展示が非常に詳しく、勉強になる。時間があったら是非立ち寄ってゆっくり回ることをおすすめする。

秋吉台カルスト展望台のすぐ近くにあります。秋吉台のことを知ることが出来る点が良かったです。カルスト展望台と合わせて見学すると良いと思われます。入場は無料です。
